List Of Favourite Restaurants In Phuket

Last night I dined out at the new M & Ms in Nai Harn. Off street parking, nice decor, high ceiling, open air. They should do very well there. The difference between it & the old place is chalk & cheese.

I don't know if the Facebook pizza club can come up with a better pizza but I have yet to find one.

The Phuket Pizza Tuesday club tasted and tested the new M&M's in Naiharn tonight. The pizza's have IMPROVED if anything since their move from Rawai.

Big plates of pizza around the 230baht mark.

Heineken 70baht.

Is it any wonder that they are busy all year round.

Good food. Sensible prices.

In terms of pizza quality, they are definitely snapping on the heals of the doyen of pizza - Salvatore's in Phuket Town.

Probably a bit cheaper too.

New restaurant decor is an improvement over the Rawai place.

It seems bigger too and they possibly need a couple more staff waiting tables - but that is a small criticism to be honest.

Highly recommended.

DaVinci in Nai Harn is worth a mention, my favourite restaurant down the South of the island.

Hi

They dont come close to M&M pizza i even think they where better before, and i am so sick and tired of hearing about Davinci on FM90,5 maybe the only advertiser they have

Phuket Pizza Tuesday tested DaVinci a few months back and placed them in 4th place, just one place behind M&M Rawai.

The pizza was good, and the restaurant ambiance, service etc were good too.

The committee stands behind its results (which are unbiased because the restaurants don't know we are coming, and we pay for everything we eat)

If standards have slipped, we will put it on the list for a retaste.

Don't think this is a definitive list, more an ongoing update of people's experiences for sometimes old, sometimes new.

That's very true Pagallim, but it's all it can and ever will be. New places open, others close, chefs change jobs, etc etc. The list has to be fluid to be valid.

Anywhere can make a good (or sometimes bad) meal occasionally, but it's the one's who perform equally well on a quiet Tuesday, or a busy Saturday that should get the plaudits.

Agreed. Next time you're in my neck of the woods, take the missus to the Anchor Inn, its kinda the first restaurant as you turn off Chalong circle onto the Chalong pier road, on your left.

The restaurant itself may not impress her, but the food and service should do. It's a good honest 'every day' place.

I have their green curry, with a plate of rice = 80baht.

Heniken is like 50baht.

I never eat foreign food in there - but the portions i've seen are huge.

The place has customers all year round, and that speaks volumes.

It's a good pre-football place !

So, where was number 1 and 2? Just curious.

Personally, I like Pizzeria Hut in Soi Sansabai in Patong.

Sure Valentine don't know "La Capannina" da Mario in Kata.........by far the best pizza in Phuket...made by real italian tomatoes not with the sweet thai tomatoes using by M&M. :):D

Of course only italians can really understand (after one bite) the big difference.... :D

ps.: please, please, please...don't put in the same sentence the words "pizza" and "PizzaHut"...it is a real oxymoron... :D

I would probably agree with that, I love Pizza but have never eaten at Salvatores, The Kata Pizza place is good (can't remember the name) and M&M's are very good as well. Catch Pizza from Surin aren't bad.

Capannina is good. It's very very good. But it aint the best!

Many things make a good pizza (and unfortunately too few Thai's can make it)

Pizza dough is NOT sweet. Yes, put olive oil in it. No sugar please.

Ingredients have to be fresh and not sweet.

Cheese has to be the best you can buy.

One exception is DaVinci where the chef is Thai but makes a really good pizza.

And yes, i'm Italian.

My first comment wasn't criticism, only putting the recommendations into perspective. WRT the Anchor Inn, will do, if we can only get Man Utd being shown at a decent time (2330 again this Saturday!). M'Sahib is never impressed with decor, only atmosphere, service and quality of food.

Incidentally, been to the Beach Bar, a 100 metres or so past the Novotel on the road to Ao Yon recently. Great spot on the beach, overlooking the whole of Chalong Bay. Food is quite good, with friendly service. Prices very reasonable. If you enjoy eating with the sand between your toes being licked clean by the occasional surf, anyone would enjoy it.

The best pizzas in my opinion are American style. Not Italian.

Like so many things, the Yanks took something from another culture and improved it (pineapple on pizza being the exception).

Can't answer that as I've never been to Mexico, but, it wouldn't surprise me. Had great Mexican food in Texas. Maybe the ingredients used in the States are better quality than in Mexico?

I have spent many years working in India, yet I know that the best Indian food is served in the UK.

So.....Yanks have better "mozzarella"...better "San Marzano" tomatoes...better "extra virgin olive oil"....better "wood oven".....better "Genova basil"....

:):D:D:D:D:D

ps.: sure you love this real "Chicago style" pizza....

Where did you read that pizza dough must be sweet???? :)

Mario's pizza is the best not only in my opinion........gives a look at "tripadvisor"... not a classic "guide" that can corrupt..... but an independent evaluation by travelers....

Er...... i didnt. I said pizza dough is NOT sweet. NOT SWEET. Thai pizza dough, like their bread, IS sweet.

This shit i cannot eat.

My mama would kill me if she found out i had eaten sweet pizza dough.

No, really, she would !

if there is one website where the reviews are corrupted by commercialised reviews and rejected unwelcome reviews it is the tripadvisor website.

Why you don't think twice before post? How can you say that?? Do you really think that travelers with dozen and more reviews, from all over the world, are bribe by restaurant's owner??.... :D:D:)

The reviews I place below.....do you, really, think it is a GOOD review?????????? Because you wrote that TA rejected bad reviews.....

The highlight of our holiday is having to travel from Thailand to Singapore with my husband in severe pain.

Worst part, the day after is our flight back to UK... horrible!

We got quarantined and checked on all airports.

My poor hubby started having diarrhea a few hours after eating the "grilled bbq steak" from this resto.

He never had anything to eat since then, he was sick.

Doctor said he got salmonella, as doc did some tests.

Obviously, this resto has sanitation issues and should be inspected.

I urge health officials of Thailand to check this restaurant.

Will never ever come near to this place ever again as I am very very sure this is where my hubby got this bacteria that nearly costs his life...

Overrated, lack of Italian flavors, indifferent chef & staff"

CAPANNINA</h2> x.gif no_user_photo-v1.gif jleejj 6 contributions Los Angeles, California Jun 4, 2009

-main dishes tasted bland & too oily

-desserts lacked flavor & were not sweet enough

-for a small dive, chef & staff are unfriendly & cold

-better Italian restaurants are available in Kata Beach like Two Chefs for similar costs

Stayed at Sugar Palm Grand Hillside in Kata Beach for 2 weeks for our honeymoon, so we were very familiar with the local restaurants. Went here because of the #1 ranking from this website. My wife's spaghetti with chicken was ok, but was too oily. I ordered the large vegetable pizza not knowing it's almost 30 inches in diameter! Take a look at my photos for proof. Pizza Hut had better tasting brick oven pizzas! What they lack in taste, they overcompensate in portions. Buyer beware.

Pizza dimensions could not be found anywhere so I spoke to Chef Mario who was aloof, indifferent, & unsympathetic to my requests to warn patrons about his pizza sizes. Why not just write them on the chalk board menu?

We also tried the chocolate gelato & tiramisu. The gelato was neither creamy nor flavorful. Ice cream from the local food mart was likely on par. The tiramisu was very buttery and tasted like non-sweet crème.

Needless to say, we left very disappointed with our US$40 total bill. Compared to Two Chefs Restaurant just down the street, the Swedish/Italian dishes they served were exploding with flavors, had friendly staff, generous portions, & also inexpensive. Lunch for 2 was US$25 total. Too bad there aren't more food reviews here for Phuket because there are great eats all over the island. Do yourself a favor and go explore.

There are always discussions on TA about this, and these discussions are deleted very, very quickly.

But many, many posters there are complaining that their reviews (quite often the negative reviews) are not published. Also, many of the (positive of course) reviews about hotels and trips are done by the operators themselves. If you look good at the reviews you can normally tell which ones are fake.

TA wants to keep it positive and sell, so yes, many negative reviews there are rejected (but of course you'll manage to find some).

Sure. I can agree with you about FAKE reviews...but, I think, it is very simple to see.......if you see many reviews covering a particular restaurant made by travelers with only ONE review in their life..... :) .....but I am sure that readers are not "stupid geese".....and can separate the good from the bad... :D

Glad to hear this.

I said: "if there is one website where the reviews are corrupted by commercialised reviews and rejected unwelcome reviews it is the tripadvisor website.", you did not agree with this but now you do agree that on TA many reviews are fake.

This is off topic though, and distracting from the main thread: favourite restaurants in Phuket.

Unfortunately there are some, not all, reviews of restaurants that appear here which are indirect recommendations by interested parties. You can normally spot them straight away, as they are gushing in their praise for particular places. Sift through these though, and there are some excellent recommendations.

Wanted to add to the list of my Fav places in Rawai , have been going to Amalfi for years and always leave happy and full and the wallet is also happy , Sara does a great job and will also cook specials if you ask , my wife rates the woodfired pizza right up with the best and i can never go past the squid. The place is always full of locals and a lot of italian tourists come for some authentic italian food . The menu is huge and the place is spotless , Sara and the staff treat everyone like old friends and add to that drinks that are far cheaper than up the road .

Give it a shot if you are in Rawai .

I think lists like these are dangerous (very personal) and very quickly outdated. Look at the Green Man, I have not heard anything good about the place in the last year.

BTW. Green man and Don's are not in Kata, Ratri is in Kata and not in Karon. (changed by mod. thanks)

If the Roadhouse is before Simon Cabaret on the way from Patong to Karon, it has to be in Patong and not Karon. (changed by mod. thanks)

I think the Family restaurant moved. (need someone to confirm this please)

hi i can help,, the family restaurant has indeed moved but only about 800yds, from the pier turn left at "roundabout" and its on your left way befors post office if my memory sevres,, and as for the Green man,, well , :) , in my opinion, its sunday roasts let this lovely public house down terribly,, my 7 yr old could eat the adult portion,, 2 roastys tiny yorkshire pud 1, 2.5 slices of thin meat, small amount veg, this is not a traditional dinner, i would have to order 3 to come close,,lol :D , anyone know of a place that serves a sunday carvery close to chalong??

The Family is immediately next to the Tesco Lotus on the Chalong/Rawai Road. OK, but not totally authentic Middle Eastern food.

Re Green Man, bit of a sad story really, good location (roadside), but not enough (in my opinion) management interface. Even worse, whenever I've been there, few if any people in!

Ratri's. Good location and tries hard with the Jazz band. Only problem is that the service is poor, particularly if there is a large party in (which they locate downstairs), which means there's nobody to serve drinks/take food orders upstairs. Oh, and silly prices.

Ratri's was brilliant a few years back, but past 6 months the Jazz band has been replaced by one farang and 2 Mojitos are now 650 baht :)

Hope they improve for this high season.
