this phenomena "the sun halo", which is caused by ice crystals in the earth atmosphere, has been discussed and shown here: Samui Thread

Nice post "thaigerd" and "Samuian".

This happends in May normally in Thailand. I did post a thread in 2006 about this.

Below is the photo that I posted taken in Kan:-
