I'm meeting a friend at 6 AM. His friend is arriving at 8 PM the same day. Both want to go on to Pattaya. I suggested a hotel in BKK for that night.

My friend replies back saying he's been told that Pattaya is the same distance as BKK from the new airport so he's suggesting to go straight to Pattaya and then return that evening to meet his friend, then back to Pattaya.

This seems to me a strange way of doing it. I think perhaps what they meant is the travel time could be much the same, depending on the traffic, and where in BKK you want to go. But not the distance.

I'm asking as I haven't been to Pattaya for many years, well before the new airport was built.

Thanks in advance.

Takes us about 2 hours, but we drive right at around 100 kph... I know *speed demons* that do it in about 1 hour 15 minutes. Sometimes you might run into traffic outbound from Pattaya that might tag on another half an hour.

The Pattaya is not the same distance from the airport as BKK is....stand to be corrected but airport to BKK is around 36km and denpendent on where you are coming from in Pattaya about 90 km....the saving grace going direct to Pattaya is that you can get straight on the motorway and put your foot down, normally when travelling from my place (Sattahip) to Swampy normally give it 1.5 hours...

OK, thanks for that, gives us something to work on.

Also, arriving at that time in the evening probably means an expensive taxi to Pattaya.

Alternatively, anyone know what time is the last bus from Ekamai?

Pattaya soi 2 to Asoke (Soi Cowboy) is 141 km. I know because I drive it regularly & I am sad enough to bet with my g/f on who can guess nearest to the actual..knowing full well that women are not spatially aware and can't read maps and thai women even less so. Easiest 20bt ever.

I forget what the actual distance from the airport to my apartment on Asoke but i think it is not more than 25km so the above poster seems about right with his 120km from Airport to Pattaya.
