Rumble Strips = Grumble Trips

Featured Replies

This may be better off in the motor forum.

Recently, whoever is responsible for the roads has ordered loads of 'rumble strips' (series of white paint on roads) in an attempt to slow drivers down. It doesn't. These things are designed to alert drivers on fast roads of an upcoming bend, not as sleeping policemen in urban areas. They have them on fast straight bits of roads that have no real dangers to road users or pedestrians. Even on 4 lane open expressways without a bend in sight. IDIOTS!

Rant over.

They are often used on straight bits of open expressways to make sure drivers are alert and not falling asleep. If you are nodding off, running over these at 120km will sure wake you up....

On the Bangna-Trat elevated, they have these in areas where there is a danger of high crosswinds in order to make sure you are alert.

I can understand that, but loads of the things in north west outer Bangkok is taking the p*ss. It is actually less stressful going over them fast, so they don't do much to slow cars down.

Hi,

I have been told that those 'strips' of paint are different thicknesses, and different paints, in order to test the durability.

However, having been scared sh!tless by a huge unforseen gust of wind on the elevated at Bang Na, I agree with Thaihome regarding his post.

That's fine, have them there, but please why in a built up area? No, it doesn't slow drivers down to protect pedestrians.
