PaulAllen
Where is the best place to buy gold? Many shops around. Do they all use the same daily gold rates, etc? I have no idea how it works but I need to buy some gold so I want to go to the shop where I will get the best deal. Thanks

Allthough it off course would have been cheaper in chinatown in Bangkok. Btw., i have to say, if it is a "sin sod" i think you overdo it already, dont let them take all your money without knowing there is approx. 40 mil. women in this country and most of them cheap and hot!!!! Dont give them all you have, brother!!!

Have used it twice to make custom jewelry. Yes, he is good, this guy, his workshop, it's called "Golden House"! As of my knowledge many of the Gold Shops on Samui have the Jobs done at his place...mark up nad here you go! So for ANY item to be fixed or newly made, go there! A Thai-Gold Shop is connected too! Thai-Gold Ornaments ready made, I always by at "Jo's" left side at the beginning of the "Middle Road" (between/paralell to Beach Rd. and Market Rd.) in Nathon! PaulAllen
OK, after looking in several stores, all pretty much had the same stuff and same prices. One place was 100 baht cheaper and then gave another 50 baht discount so I bought from there. But it seems it's all pretty much standard stuff and exactly priced. It was 7.59 grams (1/2 baht of gold) for 7,250 baht. Now my gf has got some bling! (Thankfully not too much!) PA

koheesti
It was 7.59 grams (1/2 baht of gold) for 7,250 baht.PA How can you be sure it was what they told you? Did you have it chemically tested (or however they verify it)? So much around here is a scam of some sort why would the gold market be any different? Please don't bother replying "because the law says...".

You might be in for the big surprice that it is value that matters! Thais is general have it as kind of a hobby to trade in their gifts and in particular gold. Change it for something bigger or better or different design and ad some money. That your gf thinks it´s real is all that matters ´til she try to trade it for something else, hahaha! Seriously though, i dont think the serious shops in bigc, tesco, would have the guts to sell fake gold. The one on the lakeroad on the other hand i heard some stories about. A good way to do it is to let the thai gf go and buy it herself. They are pretty ok in seing if it is real or not, plus the fact that the shops mostly scam foreigners if any. koheesti
So it's all based on trust in the seller then? Doesn't sound like a good idea if you ask me. Maybe I just read this forum too much. Years ago I bought my girlfriend a really nice ring. Her brother used to "dabble" in precious stones and when he examined it he was truly impressed. Not so much when I told him I got it via my Montgomery Ward credit card for $2.99 (it was cubic zirconium) and that I got her a different one each month. So if your gf thinks it's real, great. Even better if her friends do. Edited June 10, 2008 by koheesti

Hahaha....Montgomery Ward! They went out of business you know? I guess they should have charged at least $3.50 for those rings.
