Same supplier and same message here.

There are several ban systems now. On the thai ISP side, but also on the YouTube side (based on the location of the IP address of the viewer, etc).

The issue is, allegedly, too sensitive.

:o

Google "youtube ban thailand 2008", you'll understand.

I can't get on for 2 days now, TOT.

FOR ALL WHO HAVE TOT INTERNET, READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY GIRLFRIEND GOT ON THE PHONE WITH TOT YESTERDAY, AND AFTER 1 HOUR OF

COMPLAINING ABOUT A YOUTUBE BLOCK, THEY FINALLY ADMITTED THAT THEY ARE

IN COMPLIANCE WITH MICT (MINISTRY OF INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES)

TO BLOCK YOUTUBE AND SEVERAL OTHER WEBSITES THAT THEY DEEM INNAPROPRIATE.

SO, THERE YA HAVE IT. CENCORSHIP. ENJOY EVERYTHING ELSE!!

Just been to the TOT office in Central ( Phuket) and was told the same thing after sitting for half an hour while being passed from one sales assistant to another. Finally it was explained that TOT is government owned hence the block. Time to move to TT&T !! :o

I wondered why I got this message on every video (embedded) I tried to watch. Then went to YouTube, which can be accessed with no problems. However, any video there also the same message. Using a proxy

server solves the problem.

I can't imagine TOT is censoring YouTube because then the site would be inaccessible. Does YouTube, following the problems with Thailand, block certain IP numbers?

This is discussed in another thread with the result that TOT is banning YouTube. I don't believe so.

Nope, it's just that YouTube is currently getting sued by everyone and anyone for copyrights infringement. Viacom just launched a huge lawsuit - if these kinds of lawsuits succeed it may take YouTube down for good.

Anyway, that's the reason YouTube is vigilantly removing all videos where copyrights may have been violated.

I was trying to watch Euro highlights on YouTube and these were uploaded and zapped at amazing speed. I have seen the message even on harmless videos... too bad as it makes YouTube just so much less fun.

Many (most?) of the occurances of this message ARE related to blocking. I can view videos here in India that get the 'video removed' message in Thailand.

Obviously some of these messages are genuine, removed for copyright reasons.

Correct. This has nothing to do with copyright issues. As I said, it seems that YouTube blocks IP addresses. If you use a proxy server, you can watch them. I also tried videos of Soi 6 which of course are not copyrighted because they are made by tourists showing them to the world.

To keep the thread alive, let me say that I just signed up a week ago with TOT at a new apt in Pinklao, BKK, and ALL YouTube videos get the "not available" message, including ones I have put up. This tells me that YouTube is doing the banning, probably at TOT's request. Otherwise the web site itself would be blocked as are porno sites. YouTube (and Google) suck for capitulating to censorship. I'm going to find a proxy server.

I'm getting the same "video not available" messages for pretty much all youtube content.

In addition, I can no longer use the Google "cached" button while searching (I always use the cached site as it highlights the words I'm searching for). Are the Google cache and youtube problems related?

Also, could somebody please point me to the thread (or another source of information) that explains how to use a proxy? I can't find it here (or are we not allowed to talk about it?) Either way, if someone could PM me the info I'd appreciate it. :o

If I log onto youtube normaly then I just get the now famous sorry this video is no longer avalible.

If I use a proxy then I can view the video but only for about 30 seconds then it stops and goes back to the begining ? I can re start it again but only for the same 30 seconds, then back to the begining again,

Anyone els getting this problem ?

Unable to access any video from youtube for the last couple months, in Koh Phangan, nor in Krabi now. Both connections from TOT.

It's an ISP block, not youtube's.

How does TOT block the video's without blocking the whole site?

My friend has tot and watches youtube all day long in but I get the "no longer available". We both live in Chiang Mai. After not trying to watch for a month I just tried and Youtube worked. Then after watching videos for a few hours I started getting the message again. Now I always get the message.

It's as if someone saw I was watching utube and then blocked me. I was just watching miscellaneous videos.

It could be a an application blocking youtube's scripts, installed on some TOT servers only... I dunno. There must be some kind of reason for our traffic going through 17 hops in the TOT network before leaving Thailand :o

...As only TOT users are affected, it shows that it's not youtube blocking Thai IPs.

It's possible that youtube agreed to block TOT's users only. But then, TOT would provide youtube with their ranges of IPs, and all TOT users would be blocked.

A server-running application on some TOT servers would be consistent with youtube going on and for you, with the same IP (I assume?) : that IP is not being blocked by youtube, so it must be a TOT server along the way. If your TOT routing changes then you can get youtube, it changes again and you lose the video script. It's a possibility.

It'd be interesting for you to print a tracert report now, and another if you ever gain access to youtube again : by comparing them you might be able to identify the blocking server, if that's the case.

Hi

I often come out for food to a cafe with wireless in the evening. Nice place, only one problem. When I relax to a nice UTube vid it tries to wind up then says

"Sorry this video is no longer available"

I try other vids and try repeatedly. Nothing.

What could the problem be, I can't imagine they would block it to save bandwidth as usually I'm the only person using the facility. In any case would it be possible?

cheers John

I used to be able to run vids on youtube. Now I get the same message on every try:

"Sorry this video is no longer available"

I'm near Pattaya on TT$T

I'm in Jomtien on TT&T, and YouTube works well. Occasionally I will run into videos that are "no longer available."

Maybe you just ran into a string of videos you want to watch that are removed? If you go to the main YouTube home page (www.youtube.com), can you play any of those videos?

Last week or so, maybe up to half of the video's on youtube come up as "We're sorry, this video is no longer available".

Strange in the fact that maybe an hour later the video might work again.

Strange since it all are video's showing up on a youtube search. If it's not available anymore, why does it shows up on the seacrh in the first place?

At some times, simply ALL the video's are like that!

Following screenshot is of a most watced video...

I seem to remember that there's a thread here somewhere about that: there was one point when state censorship set in after YouTube hosting some video that ridiculed H.M. The King. That situation was eventually resolved (YouTube got rid of the video), but in the wake of that, many (if not most) ISPs in Thailand started to censor YouTube access. All in all, there's quite a bit of Internet Big Brother-ing going on in this country.

I can watch that video on both True and CSLox so not sure what your problems are?

Maybe include the link to the video(s) you're having problems with so others can verify accessibility?

Youtube (Google) are in several legal battles, most notably with Viacom, regarding copyright infringement. A lot of Youtube videos use music which is copyright protected. Technically that is illegal unless the music happens to be playing in the background while the video is being shot. That is to say, it cannot be dubbed in afterwards. I think some videos have been pulled for that reason.

There seems to be much, much, much less censorship here than during the first Youtube blockages. I have yet to encounter a blocked website or video in the past 90 days.

definitely not copyright problems, have it on 3 year old stuff etc as well.

Comes and goes, so one clip might not work for a couple of hours, sometimes days, and then work again.

I'm on CAT ADSL by the way, which normally hardly blocks anything!
