If anyone attended the meeting yesterday at the Fairhouse....A grand idea with many concerned community members, Samui Channel and govermet officials coming together to show some commitment towards the island's environmental issues. Please see below and contact the organisers if you didn't attend but wish further info. Stop moaning and start participating!!!! :o

Dear friend of our green island.

Please find enclosed an update on the Global Mala activities since September last year, and an invitation to join The Green Island Project, an initiative that will be launched this week on Koh Samui.

The Green Island Project is an umbrella organization to network and encourage an environmentally aware mindset on Koh Samui.

We understand that we as humans affect the environment, but we believe this does not have to be destructive. It can be done is a balanced way, to preserve and even enhance the natural world around us. We encourage everyone to participate - individuals, businesses, local community, local organizations, government, the TAT, non profit organization, media and even tourists to create awareness and work together, without judgment or prejudice.

We encourage everyone on the island to make a contribution to reduce, recycle, reuse and become more aware of what a green jewel Samui still is.

On 18th June, there will be a ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding with some of the stakeholders and the Minister of tourism and sport will officiate.

There will be more than 30 local and national media invited to the event.

If you would like more information, please sign up at www.thegreenislandproject.org

If you'd prefer not to receive any more such mails, please reply to this one.

As yet, we have no proper global mala website, so for the moment please email Khun Saithip at The Green Island Project

Why don't they advertise these events in the correct manner.Always after the fact.

Does the website have an English version?

There is a grassroots initiative in southern Phuket of concerned Thai and expat residents over the rapid degradation of environment / lack of planning and action for such basic amenities as garbage disposal. The local OrBorTor is not real interested so a petition is being planned to address these issues.

Since there are so many expat residents on Phuket and Samui - it only makes sense to communicate the issues in English as well as Thai!

:D hmmm...by pure ''luck'' I came across The Green Island Project - Koh Samui - Thailand and I'm not sure what to think of it, since I heard of it for the first time although it was mentioned here some 6 months ago already (but I must have missed it).

Does it have any impact ? :o

http://www.thegreenislandproject.org/ mainly in Thai and on the bottom of the page lots of photos of seemingly hi-so Thai people and as far as I've seen very few Farang... :D
