Koh Phangan - A Second Impression

Featured Replies

A few months ago I posted my disappointing 1st impression of KPG. Although I didn't see much this time around either, what I saw left me feeling better about the place.

I took that Chinese junk boat tour around KPG. Granted, most of what I saw was from the water but we did get to explore a bit on land. The first place we stopped was Koh Ma for a little swimming. Unfortunately, there were some small jellyfish around because several people in our group got stung. So I just stayed on the boat and drank. Our next stop was either Haad Sadet or Haad Thang Reng. From there we went inland to see Phu Dang Waterfall then hang on the beach. The waterfall wasn't really worth the trip but it was nice to get off the boat. The beaches we saw all looked peaceful and clean and the water ideal for swimming (unlike Bangrak where I live). Great places to get away from it all. I was surprised to see that most of the coast of KPG we saw was rocky cliffs - with some nice homes hidden among the rocks. I think the only thing this visit had in common with the last time was that most people we saw were young, white, farangs. It reminded me of what a 30-something friend on mine told me when I was in Europe last month - that Thailand was great if you're young. He must have only been to KPG.

OK, not a whole lot this time around but I thought it only fair to post about my positive experience. I hope you KPGers appreciate it. :o
