Marriage In Uk On A Holiday Visa?

Featured Replies

I have a simple question. First, imagine a Thai girl going to the UK on a holiday visa to visit her boyfriend. Whilst she is there, they decide that they would like to marry in the UK and they start making enquiries as to how this can be done quickly. The Thai girl wants to change her visa status whilst in the UK immediately after the marriage so as to enable her to stay there.

Can all of this be done in the UK without the Thai girl returning to Thailand and what documentation would she need, either from the UK or from Thailand, to effect this marriage quickly and legally?

Many thanks for your advice on this. By the way, old Taijitu isn't involved in this other than to seek advice on behalf of a young friend!!!!

A normal visitor (if not on a Visit for marriage or civil partnership visa) currently requires a COA unless planning to get married at an Anglican Church in England or Wales, after marriage banns or with a religious licence. However, see also War On Bogus Immigrants' Sham Marriages 'is A Breach Of Human Rights'

Visitors may not switch to spouse status from within the UK. They would need to apply for a spouse visa.
