Chiang Rai Students Learning to Grow Rice

Pa Lan School, a school in the northern province of Chiang Rai, is training its students to grow rice, and the produce will be used for their lunch. This scheme follows His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s sufficiency economy philosophy.

Over 20 students from grade two to six at Pa Lan School in tambon Pong Noi in Doi Luang district of Chiang Rai province are having fun while being trained to grow rice on the paddy fields near their school.

A teacher from Pa Lan School says the school is applying His Majesty the King’s sufficiency economy philosophy into its courses, and the local villagers are cooperating with the teachers very well in teaching students how to grow and harvest rice. In addition, students here have been encouraged to save their money and generate their own income.

This activity gives students more career opportunities while allowing them to understand the importance of Thai farmers.

Captions anyone?

"When they said field trip I thought it would shopping class at the Mall".

It pleases me that they enforce the school uniform in that kind of environment. It just makes so much sense.

Thai school do have agriculture classes . Just that we do not see them do any actual field work .
