I have a lot of mail from the UK which just hasn't turned up. Anyone know of any probs in the UK (other than the usual Royal Mail problems) or is just the case that Royal Mail just grinds to a halt in the summer months? Anyone else having problems?

I occasionally get letters from the UK, and they are usually *very* late arriving (posted from London, arriving in Bangkok, so it's not an issue of teeny provincial post offices).
We live in chiang mai recieve most of our mail from uk but a lot of cards do not arrive .

Birthday cards often contain money inside - the mail workers know this.

I got 2 letters from England today - they were posted on 30th & 31st July.

They were both in large envelopes with my address on the document inside visible through a transparent window in the envelope. They obviously contained only documents and were of no monetary value.

I've had problems in the last couple months, but with things posted from the US. Two out of four things have gone missing, a package and a letter. Both had tracking numbers and the tracking stopped upon arrival in Thailand. The letter contained a credit card, which never ended up getting used even though I canceled it a few days after it arrived in Thailand. The other was fertilizer for tomatoes that was shipped two months ago.

I am considering getting all of my personal mail from overseas delivered to where I work instead of my home mailbox. Perhaps having an address that is a company in Thailand instead of an individual will make things less likely to go astray.

In nearly 3 years I've never had a problem with mail from the UK. The only monor problem I get sometimes is that they will save up 2 weeks worth of mail before delivering it, but never had anything go missing (I receive on average about 5 pieces of mail per week from the UK)

Edited to add: I didn't mean the above as a gloat, and I do know several people who have had a few problems. Are your letters being addressed correctly? Even when I wrote it down for the UK banks, some of them couldn't get their computers to accept the full address, so modified it to include only the important bits. Having half a town/ city name is probably worse than having none at all. Also check that your house is clearly marked. Some w£nkers stole my house sign last year and we did'nt get any mail for 3 weeks until I noticed it.

Uk mail letters ect usally here in 1 week, but when we were in UK last october and posted 3 boxes, 290quid, took 4 months to arrive, they were unopened and no damage, so hang on, things might get through eventually..

Maybe it depends where you live, where I am it is a big problem.

I went to the local post office and complained since then more letters make it through.

Also not sure if its just because the postman can't read the address in Latin letters.

As a precaution I have told anybody sending post to make sure they print out the address, apposed to writing

it by hand, maybe on sticky back paper just to make it look a bit more official.

Anything very important I would send by DHL apposed to registered normal post.

I lived in Khon Kaen province for 5 years and had a 100% success rate in receiving mail from the UK, normally within 2 weeks of it being posted.

In December last year I moved to Nong Bua Lam Phu province and so far I have had a 100% failure rate on UK mail. Been down to the Post Office and introduced myself and explained to the staff where I lived, my name etc and even offered to come and translate any English language addressed mail but up to now, Christmas cards, Birthday cards, calendars, books ets all mysteriously disappeared.

However any correspondence from my bank in Bangkok makes it through 100% successfully and it's addressed in English.

So methinks the problem is not a local one.
