Comehome Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Hi, I would like to go to the temple to talk to the monk but I cant find any monk that speaks good english. My friend says she can go with me and translate but it is difficult for us to find the time. What about the monks on Samui generally? Do you have any experiences, good or bad? I read in the Bhuddist section on this forum that some monks try to earn money on farangs. Please share if you feel like it. Thanks for your time and take care! /comehome
Birdman Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 If you would like to know from a monk about simple matters, like the daily routine of a monk, you can find some monks with basic english at the more touristic temples on the Island. If you would like to get some deeper knowledge about Buddhism, you could contact Wat Hin Lad, next to the waterfall, if you are on Samui. But I think, good english speaking monks are also not there all the time. Best option: On the mainland, north of Surat Thani, is Wat Suan Mok, a meeting place for Buddhists from all over the world. Meditation courses are held there. www.suanmokkh.org
Comehome Posted August 12, 2008 Author Posted August 12, 2008 Thank you so much for the help! I have been to the temple in Nathon, the one by the waterfall, once. I talked with the eldest monk there but he only spoke thai. Luckily I had my friend with me to translate but I guess I will have to go to Suratthani next time. Thanks again and take care! /comehome

Many years ago meet an Aussie/Thai Monk there. Go into the barn behind the temple and come out as a new man/lady. Ask the locals to open it for for prayers..... Not a tourist place, please don't bring any tourist to this sacred place.
