Am new to Bangkok, lived Pattaya/Jomtien 2 years, I could buy generic/copy Viagra for 300 baht (4 tabs, 100mg), here they ask 600, also had a place in Pattaya could buy GPO Zithromax (Thai Government sponsored) for 100 or 150. Anyone know of a pharmacy near Thong Lo, Phrom Pong, Asoke or Ekamia BTS stops with good prices for above items? Thanks!

Are you taking these medications with a prescription? It is odd to see someone self administering an antibiotic that is usually associated with a sexually transmitted illness and inquire about a treatment for ED at the same time.

If you are taking zithromax to respond to symptoms of chlamydia or gonorrhoea, doing so in the absence of an accompanying test to verify if you have syphilis and the aforementioned STIs is dangerous. A large number of the bacteria are now resistant due to inappropriate use of the antibiotic. If it is to treat a strep or staph infection, without the absence of confirming the strain, you are at risk of developing a very deadly resistant strain. This is why the drugs are not supposed to be dispensed without a script and a culture.

Erectile dysfunction is often associated with cardiovascular disease. This is why it is recommended that a physician will dispense the script. Before dispensing, the physician is expected to review the risk of heart disease factors as they present through ED.

I take the zithormax for sinus infections 2 or 3 times a year, have been using it for 10 years or so...

Sounds like you are a medical professional; do you have a clinic nearby? I was thinking about buying the medical insurance offered by Siam Bank, only 7000 baht a year, you have to pay the hospital or clinic upfront then they will reimburse you after when you show them the receipts... do you know anything about this health insurance?

Thanks! Paul

just lookin for a good priced pharmacy...

Zithromax - super anti-biotic and only should be used for last resort.

Clap/gonorrhea - dose of doxycycline, doubt Zithromax will help there.

I apologize for my bias, but that's what happens to people like me after awhile of reading the same studies year after year. It's not my intent to belittle you, so I apologize if that's how it reads.

I suggest you consider posting in the health thread. There are lots of wise owls in there. You can always pm Sheryl the mod in that forum. She knows her stuff.

In respect to the sinus infections, my compendium states that the antibiotic is effective against only 3 bacteria i) Haemophilus influenzae, ii) Streptococcus pneumoniae and iii) Moraxella catarrhalis. These are hefty bacteria. If you are having reoccurrences, then there is strong likelihood that you have a breeding reservoir that pops up whenever your immune system is weakened (fatigue, stress, other illness) and there is a chance that it may be a virus and not a bacteria. I strongly suggest you consider seeking a consult with an ENT specialist to determine what it is that you have. Maybe he or she can rid you of this pesky situation once and for all.

In regard to the health insurance, I am fortunate to have a corporate plan (crappy by western standards, but better than most plans available in Thailand) and I have a pre-designated health care facility. I know squat when it comes to what's out there. There is lots of information in TV if you just type in the search health plans. Lots of experience that people share.

Well, if you're looking for a pharmacy that will sell you whatever it is you want, try these two --

1. Just one or two shop doors past Sukhumvit Soi 15, in the direction towards lower sois, is a pharmacy where I buy most of my asthma medication, and their prices are way better than Bumrungrad Hospital's prices for drugs

2. In Amarin Plaza at Erawan, just by the bridge to the BTS Chidlom station, on the 1st floor (one up from ground floor) is a pharmacy that will probably sell you whatever you ask for.

Yet another reason not to self-medicate. Taking the same anti-biotic over and over again for years will result in diminishing returns and a false sense of security when you least expect it. As Zythromycin is usually used for fairly serious infections, it is not a drug that you want your body building up a resistance to.

As one who has a reduced immunosuppressive capability due to leukemia/lymphoma and fairly severe problems with ENT/sinus infections, if you are having 2-3 sinus infections or more per year, I would strongly recommend getting some blood work done to ensure that your blood chemistry is in order. As someone else suggested, I would also suggest getting in to see an ENT specialist to make sure everything is ok in your throat and sinus areas.

For you and anyone else reading, please do not self-medicate with anti-biotics or other strong drugs.
