Today me and my thai wife went to Glasgow to get her a settlement visa. After 2 hours of form checks and payments desks she got her new visa. My question is, on her current thai passport it still has her thai surname on it and on the new settlment visa it has her thai surname on it, we only married last month so what do we need to do about changing her name to my surname on her passport and visa? can this be done?

We r going away to thailand in december and the tickets from the travel agent have her thai surname on so we r going to leave it till when we get back to start the process of changing her surname to mine.

Thanks everyone :o

Well done, mate.

To change the name in the passport take it to the Thai embassy in London and show them your marriage certificate and they should put a stamp in the passport saying something along the lines of "now known as Mrs. XXXX". You don't need to worry about the stamp in your wife's passport, it will remain valid.

Cheers,

Hi Makavelli,

I'm not sure about whether the Thai embassy would do it by post. Give them a ring and find out. The alternative is to get it changed at one of the Thai passport offices in Bangkok when you're there. There shouldn't be a problem with you wife's ticket because it would be plain to see that at the time the ticket was bought she was still using her maiden name. However, you could clarify this with the check-in staff at the airport in the UK when you leave.

The stamp goes into the passport on page 3, the endorsment and ammendment page. It states that the holder has assumed the name of xxxx after her marriage.

As scouse says it is pretty obvious to ticketing staff about the name change and reason.
