Plug and play should be possible if flying business or first as most seats will have power points

Internet access is only possible now through the in seat phone which is prohibitively expensive as the internet service is not available any more

Several airlines did install and operate internet access using Boeing Connexion equipment. I used the service on LH once, maybe 18 months ago. The on-board equipment required is heavy, and costly to install and maintain. Satellite coverage was available in the northern hemisphere only, and customer uptake was minimal, Some say the price was an issue, $30 (USD) for a long-haul flight. I am pretty sure no carriers offer this service currently as Connexion ceased operations.

There are a new set of players in this market, including Aircell, and American Airlines just launched in-flight internet access on select 767 routes in the USA.; $12.95 for a transcon. They'll eventually piggyback cell and VoIP services, AFAIK.

For the OP, if riding in J or F then expect in-seat power. Bring some DVDs.
