Er, North Queensland Coast , perhaps near Cairns.

Love the sensible sandals and haircut, was your mother any relation to mine - ah memories.

Thanks for not mentioning the shorts.

No, the pic was taken somewhere between the UK an Australia in 1954.

You were on one of these ships :-

Arcadia, Iberia, Himalaya, Chusan, Stratheden, Strathmore, Strathnaver, Strathaird, Canton,

and it was either Bombay or Colombo, but I'll say Colombo.

and I'll take the kisses from a humming penguin and say goodnight. OOOrooo.

Excellent. Columbo it was and the ship was the Stathaird.

I still clearly remember Bombay, an appalling sh!thole and Columbo which was beautiful. We had lunch on the veranda of a hotel over looking the sea and saw my first surf board.

The same hotel was used as the hospital in the film "Bridge on the River Kwai" where William Holden recovered after escaping from the camp.

Now why can't I remember what to buy when I go shopping without taking a list?

Thanks for not mentioning the shorts.

I did the trip 5 years later as a 10 year old on the Orontes, calling at Aden, Colombo and Singapore.

50 years ago, I returned to Melbs on the Arcadia.

Beats flying hands down, if ya have a month to spare.

Line voyages were great, also beats cruising, which is soooo boring.

Looking for a pic to suit that programme.

Programme dun wanna upload... grrrrrrr

Me 65 years ago......<deleted>, PMPL.

Were you a 10 quid kid? I went to live in Melbourne (Essendon, Niddrie, Moonee Ponds) for 4 years but the folks decided they didn't like it and came back to the UK :o

Nice pic Zpete, were you training for a rodeo? :o

Yes Endure, there was a chronic housing shortage in the UK at the time and my father had to move out of his house after his mother died. It belonged to his brother who wanted to sell it... family drama, they never spoke for thirty years.

Dad wanted to immigrate to South Africa, he'd spent time there during the War and loved the place but there was a waiting list so Australia was it.

We were bound for Melbourne but one of the crew came down with smallpox so we ended up at the international quarantine station in South Australia and stayed.

I was two years old 50 years ago, but I would have been happy at how often I get laid and horrified that they are Asian. :o
