Hey,

I’m considering going back to Ireland to study for 3 years next August. I would want my Thai partner to come with me. What possibilities are there of having a Thai getting a 3 year visa for Ireland? What requirements would we need to meet etc.?

It would be one year away so if it means getting legally married it could be arranged, plus required finances could be met etc.

Anybody have experience of getting long term visa status for a Thai to stay in Ireland?

Thanks.

Edit: PS. Just one question might answer this. If we get legally married will she automatically be eligible for a settlement visa, or is there still other requirments to meet?

Thanks.

Hi There,

I d'ont know what Nationality you are.

Normally Thais who marry Irish nationals may apply for a spousal visa in the Irish Consulate in Bangkok. Once this is granted the Thai national may travel to Ireland where they are given a few weeks permission to stay by airport immigration. They may then apply for a one year visa at Central Immigration in Burgh Quay, Dublin. This is renewed every year for 3 years where the thai can then apply for an Irish Passport. Obviously you need to show that she would not be a burden to the state through financial evidence etc.

However if you are not Irish I would guess that it would not be very easy to take her. Remember she would not be able to work unless she was studying ( You are allowed to work 20 hours per week if studying at a recognized college ) , and you would need to show huge funds. I believe it would be very difficult.

Regards

John,

Dublin.
