Thai friend has already got a tourist visa for Ireland to see her friend and I have some questions:

1) The date on the visa says from 19 Sep 08 to 19 Dec 08. Does this mean she must leave the country by 19 Dec or just that the visit must start before 20 Dec?

2) She wants to try and visit Paris or London. Will she need a Schengen visa for that?

3) Her Ireland visa is single entry. Can she leave Ireland (for the above trip to Paris) and just go back there for the return flight out (i.e. not re-enter Ireland, just transit through)

4) Should she apply for the Schengen visa in Thailand or Ireland? Or does it not matter?

Apologies if some of these have been asked before but I couldn't see them. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi There :

1) I think that is she must enter Ireland before 19th Dec. She will get a stamp determining how long she can stay at Dublin Airport.

2) She will need a visa. She should apply in French Embassy in BKK. When my wife came to Ireland in 2001 she got a visa in UK Embassy in Bangkok for a short visit. (have things changed ?)

3) Can she not go back to Bangkok via Paris ? Im not sure that they will let her onto the plane to go back to Ireland- pity you dont have a multiple entry. If you wish to do this I would upon her landing in Dublin go to immigration at Burgh Quay and apply for a re-entry visa.

Best of Luck.

John

Ireland is not signed up to the Schengen agreement, so as stated above she will need a Schengen visa for Paris.

She will also need to apply for a UK visit visa if you decide to visit London instead.

Both applications should be made in Bangkok.

As the Irish visa is single entry, once she leaves Ireland she will not be allowed back in unless she obtains another visa.

1) The date on the visa says from 19 Sep 08 to 19 Dec 08.

This is the period of her visa, she cannot visit before the 19 September or remain after the 19th December.

As stated it is a single entry, if that is what is stated on the visa.

2) She wants to try and visit Paris or London. Will she need a Schengen visa for that?

Although France is signed up to the Agreement, London is not, Schengen for Paris, a separate visa for London.

3) Her Ireland visa is single entry. Can she leave Ireland (for the above trip to Paris) and just go back there for the return flight out (i.e. not re-enter Ireland, just transit through)

You are obviously in Ireland, but i know what you mean, however it is an interesting question, transit is usually OK, as you are not leaving the airport, like when you are on non-direct flight you do not need a visa to swap planes, but in this case, they might not let you board, even if you show your forwarding ticket to Thailand.

Can't help you on that one I am afraid.

Good Luck
