brahmburgers Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I lean to alternative energy type stocks, dems dat are environmentally just, such as solar-related. or innovative building materials (insulating, etc) that conserve energy. Since I'm a long-term resident here, I thought to put a few baht in to Thailand. Any recommendations?
jumnien Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Wait three days then plunk a few baht down on Advanc, SCC and CPF. Then relax.
OlRedEyes Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 The 'tanking' has hardly started. Plenty more fun to come IMHO.
midas Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 The 'tanking' has hardly started. Plenty more fun to come IMHO. Many experts like Roubini, Soros etc say that we havent even seen the worst of all this in the normal investment world let alone the " Disneyland " which hasnt even resolved its political problems yet so be careful about jumping in yet ...........

Yes, Roubini and Mish. The 2 winners. Basic human behavior : people see the stocks falling... nice prices... hum... what a bargain.... okay I buy... It's a very powerful force. But every financial crisis have the same pattern (drop, small rallye, more drop etc.) Look at the crisis of 1929.... They hit the bottom in... 1932. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_Street_Crash_of_1929 Today, it's the same principle... only worse (more leverage). So easy to foresee the conclusion... It's going to be painful. And very long. So why buy today ? It doesn't make any sense, unless you're a player, on the very short term.

Borders in finance hardly exist anymore. Does Thailand have Solar companies ? I mean the ones who make photovoltaic (PV) cells and/or solar wafers ? Because thats where the money is made; the big money. Have a look at NY/Nasdaq based Solar energy stocks like LDK and SOLF, amongst others. The Solar hype (but isn't really a hype since they will steadily grow and grow over the years) is just starting. If the timing is correct is another thing. LaoPo
brahmburgers Posted September 19, 2008 Author Posted September 19, 2008 thanks for the replies. Actually am putting some baht towards developing land up in Chiang Rai where I reside. Plus, it's satisfying to have real work to do, including creative designing and not having to worry so much about building codes and planning commission proclivities, as I did when I did building contracting in California.
