I have noticed a few Motorbike dealers around the place that now have 250cc machines in their Showrooms, with Kawasaki being the make that I have seen the most.

I was led to believe that 250cc machines were not permitted to be imported into the country, which always seemed daft to me when you have 400, 600, 900, etc, all around the tourist resorts. Does anyone know what the score is with bikes above 150cc and how you can purchase one ligit' in LOS?

Ninja 250

Within the last few weeks Kawasaki have begin selling the Ninja 250. These are made in a Kawa factory in Rayong.

Other big bikes you've seen in the resorts are gray market bikes imported from Japan by private individuals.

If you want to buy a big bike & you want after sales service go to Red Baron in Sukhapiban 3. Ask for Vikrom. Bring lots of money.

Harley Ducati BMW & possibly others have dealerships in Bangkok.

Thanks for that. I have been into the Kawa showroom on the South Pattaya and 3rd Road Interchange and they have about 5 machines in Kawa Green and Black. Very nice looking bikes. The staff seemed to be setting everything out, so I didn't bother to hang around to ask prices but I can imagine they won't be cheap

Who led you to believe that nonsense?

The Ninja 250R is made in Thailand and is a great deal at only ~140,000 Thai Baht for a completely legal bike with warranty.

You need to do like Bard did and get a carbon fibre exhaust; a totally blacked out bike looks the best in my opinion.

Also, have you thought about getting 'ghost' flames or some other type of ghost decals to stand out? With only 3 colours being offered, there is a good chance that during a get-together you could inadvertently jump on someone else's bike.

And the guy you were replying to was kinda right; there used to be restrictions on the import of >200cc. bikes. RichardBKK can tell you when that restriction was lifted, but it was in the last year.

Hiya Dave!

Ghost flames... Hmmm, I don't think so :o

I have to agree the carbon can looks great on this bike, now all you need is some stealth rotors and some stainless or titanium bolt kit and be done. Or you could be like this guy,

http://www.chrisgoddard.net/projectNC30 check oout how he makes all the panels and tank out of carbon fibier at home!

for those who skip to the back of the book to see how it ends first! http://www.chrisgoddard.net/projectNC30page8#carbon

But everyone knows that adding ghost flames adds about 15 km/h and an extra couple of seconds of your 0-100 times!

I think I found heaven.....now only if someone locally could do that.

there probably is, but what are you willing to pay for it!? It seems like things like that fall into two categorys, either DIY or spend an ass load of money.

Tiger Boxer now has a 250cc bike ... at 72k pricetag

The BiB ride those Tiger 250s and I've had a chance to "race" off traffic lights with a couple of them. Sorry, but that Tiger is crap compared to the Ninja 250R. But then again, you get what you pay for...

If your budget is ~72K I think you'd be better off with the CBR150- about the same money but it'll kick the Tiger's butt :o

Found a good looking carbon tire hugger for the Ninja, and a comparison pic of stock versus 150 back tire. I am unsure if the tire hugger will allow 150 tire yet.

Yoshi makes a full carbon exhaust system which would look awesome on your bike, haven't found any pics of all black with Yoshi carbon, but here is a Ghostrider version with AP carbon.

Lookin' Good Bard!

Man, I haven't done a thing yet to my new Ninja beyond a tank bag and tank protector- you are WAY ahead of me! :o

Definitely thinking of beefing up the rear tire to 150, and I really like this Yoshimura Carbon Slip On:

I've never ordered stuff from overseas and am a bit leery. I'll be in Japan in February and may try to pick up a Yoshi pipe then and carry it back. You've had all your stuff sent from outside of Thailand, right? Any problems with customs or articles not arriving?

Hi There,

Yes I always import directly to Thailand from overseas and it is never any problems with it for me. You get a bill in your mail for tax and VAT and you go to your local post office pay it and they hand over your product. No problems whatsoever for 9 years living here with it, just a tip, call your seller and ask them to include a more friendly proforma invoice than full price. If you ever buy from Keith at www.sportbikedude.com he knows all about the system here. Others normally require a phone or an email to avoid high taxation.

Guess I am in forefront on the aftermarket, love the fender chop and the AP, reason for me doing it is it is one of my hobbies to tinker with mechanical stuff so bikes are a heaven in that sense. For a bike like the Ninja with so much aftermarket available it is fun to tinker and real fun to drive, unfortunately I leave for work again tomorrow so there went all the fun but I am looking forward to the Iron Butt to CM that will be great. I am considering to continue to Mae Hong Son which is Thailand's most curvy road and drive around and back to Bangkok from there if anyone else want to join for it.

Cheers Bard
