Travelling To Thailand, Want To Go To Cambodia And Laos

Featured Replies

Hi. I hope this is the right forum. I am going back to Thailand for 3 and a half weeks in November. During my trip, I plan on going to Cambodia and Laos. As I understand it, I can get a tourist visa at the port of entry, just as in Thailand, as long as I have my passport. But do I need to do anything when I first arrive in Bangkok? Because I will stay in Bangkok for a couple days upon arriving, and then will go to the other countries for maybe 2 weeks total and then back to Bangkok. So because I am entering, leaving, and then returning to Bangkok within the 3 and a half weeks, what do I need to do when I arrive to Bangkok and get the initial visa? Thanks

Also, I want to have my girlfriend, who is a Thai national, visit me in the US. From what I gather it is pretty difficult. Is there anything I should prepare for or start to try to do on this trip? We have been seeing each other for close to 2 years now. Maybe it requires a separate topic. Thanks

Regarding your Thai Girlfriend's visit to the US, I would indeed open another thread.

To answer your initial question, for both Cambodia and Laos visa on arrival is available at international border crossings EXCEPT the one between Laos and Cambodia, where Lao Visa on arrivals are NOT available.

For cambodia it is 20 USD, for Laos it is 35 USD.

I'm guessing you are aware of the Thai visa situation, if your ticket out of Thailand is more then 30 days from the arrival, and you don't have a Thai visa in your passport, you might have problems with your airline.

Yes I'm awair the the 30 day limit and the Thai visa. My ticket out of Thailand back to the US is 24 days after arrival. But can I leave Thailand before that and come back before the 24 days is up? Or will I need some sort of multiple entry visa for those 24 days? And are you saying that in order to get a visa on arrival in both Cambodia and Laos, I should go to one of them, then go back to Thailand, and then go to the other?

So I will need to do this: Arrive in Thailand, from Thailand go to Cambodia, from Cambodia back to Thailand, from Thailand go to Laos, from Laos back to Thailand, and then back to the US. Correct?

In other words I cant plan my trip like this: arrive and stay in Thailand for a few days, from Thailand go to Cambodia for a week, from Cambodia go to Laos for a week, from Laos go to Thailand, and then come home on my return flight. Is this correct that I cannot do this?

So can I enter Thailand more than once on that visa that I will get on arrival in BKK?

Thanks for the help and time

What you propose to do is possible. As it is, I'm doing the same now, arrived in bkk with a ticket out in 23 days, left for Laos, back to bkk, currently in Cambodia. Each time you enter Thailand you will receive a 30 day stamp. The only limit is that you cannot stay more then 90 days in a 6 month period on these stamps.

Exactly.
