Hello. Need extra background info on the term 'blighted ovum'? We've already been to hospital prior asking this forum. The hospital tested my WF via internal probe and an ultrasound! My wife is 5-7 weeks pregnant. No family incidence of this problem.

The doctor sai come back in two weeks to see if the baby has developed further as nothing is showing at this stage (no heart beating), but there is a sac and placenta. Early days possibly? Can anyone shed any light on the blood discharge which might be one of three factors: (1) implantation of the embryo to the uterine wall (2) misscarriage (3) ectopic (tubal) pregnancy?

Is the internal probe conclusive to rule out the third problem, seemingly this could be life threatning?

Happily the situation isn't dire, as one can try again as this occurence is often attributed to a chromosonal incident! Perhaps the egg or sperm were of low quality?

Actually, any personal insight, if you've been through such, would help much?

Thank you kindly for any replies in advance. Best regards Malcolm Owen PA...

Follow up. I admit this topic is a bit taboo, but any help appreciated, good or bad?

WF's last period was Sept 23rd. To add to that, we've been trying to conceive for the last 3 years! Conception date unsure, so we may be in for happier times, hoping!

The ectopic occurence worries me! Anyone know what warning signs to note? :o

Thank You. Malcolm Owen PA

hang in there mate, there are some competent medical professional members here, and they will all try to help, it's just a matter of when they get on line

Try not to worry and just wait the two weeks to see the doctor again.

Also, your wife may be able to feel a heartbeat at some point so keep listening/feeling.

Three years of trying is a long time. If this baby does not appear, I would get some tests to find out what is taking so long if you can afford it

(am told the tests are expensive).

Be patient. Fatherhood is worth the wait and struggle.
