I travel alot and no matter where I go some local is raving on about their local Mexican eatery, and 99% of the time its just above Kee-Kwai on the totem pole of life.Fact is anyone who says good Mexican food can be found outside Mexico and SoCal is more than likely NOT from Mexico or SoCal and doesnt know any better.I stand by my original observation.S.Cal and Mexico(same place in reality) are the only 2 spots for good Mexican food.

Someone said Texas...you're kidding right?Tex-Mex is NOT Mexican food! All my friends up and moved to Austin a few years ago and the only thing they miss about L.A. is the Mexican food!

On Samui there's a place that serves up "mexican" food and they spice the meat with curry!

But as far as BKK goes T&S is the best.Jorge is doing a good job and I ate there 3 times last week(yup I miss home)...

Jorge...no Bohemia or Negra Modelo I can understand but por que no Ropa vieja...Mi gusto mak-mak!

Did Arnold sell his state to mexico to pay up the outstanding bills and changed his name to "El Terminatoro" ?

Nothing on CNN...

Hi JR,

Y i thought so hehehe, but i just don't wan to misinform the Thai people that may get here by accident and read that, I don't want to get more confuse that they already are.

What they don't know and we do "North Americans" now Canada, USA and Mexico, is that we are cousins and we have learning to live together and good neighbours and we share so many thing, including the food.

I have to try to no be to nationalist, but what is true is that we all of us have to defend what is us, including USA, since that Mexican food have been part of the cousin in the States for many tears.

So, what I just want to do, it to keep it as close to the food I grow up with and from where I am from, Mexico City. I wish that I can have some Tex-Mex or Cal-Mex food and many mention, but i need to learn to do so, but in some point i will, why not, I am personally also eat hamburgers and I can include some "Mexican style hamburgers", but i need some time. I like to do the thing right and not just sale food to make money, some thing that I haven't so far, because i chose to develop Tacos & Salsa slowly, just like cooking, the right spices and timing always give the right flavour

Anyway, please accept my apologies, because i didn't mean to be to harsh, and actually you make laugh :) Thank you

Have a nice week

Salud !

Jorge :D

Additional requests when you move to a larger place:

1) Green cheese enchiladas (with tomatillo sauce)

2) Chile rellenos (beef and cheese and poblano sauce)

If you have them on the menu now, please let us know. Thanks.

Mexican food in Northern California and Southern California is pretty much the same, so that proves that you are not worth listening to without even going into any other places. :)

I think there's a noticeable difference, in general, between Mexican food in southern California (esp San Diego, but also LA) and northern California. Some Americans might not notice it. There are exceptions of course, good and bad. Both are good, just different. Personally I prefer the Mexican cuisine of south Texas to just about anything I've had in California. The famous Mission places in SFO just don't cut it, for me, compared to San Antonio or Laredo. Maybe it has to do with migration routes from Mexico, I dunno. I know people who live in California (and in Texas for that matter) get pretty 'nationalistic' about this issue. Different strokes, etc. A lot of the Mexicans in California come from Baja, which isn't exactly famous for its cuisine (though there is some good seafood in Baja). In San Antonio you get a lot of folks from Zacatecas and San Luis Potosi, both renowned for their regional cuisines.

One thing they just can't seem to get right north of the US-Mexico border is fresh tortillas. Not even the big US chain restos with their tortilla machines. You merely have to lift a tortilla to your nose and the difference in aroma is pretty noticeable. I don't know why, as I'm sure a lot of the masa used in el norte is imported from Mexico. Maybe it's freshness, I dunno.

I can't say much about Texas tortillas, but in San Diego, you can go to most any Mexican grocer and get fresh tortillas which are pretty much the same as you get off the cart in Mexico City.  I have been told that most of them are made in any one of a handful of small companies? factories? whatever you call a place which makes tortillas, then delivered to the grocers two or three times a day.  I would agree that I have never had a great tortilla in a supermarket, so I don't buy them there.  But at a Mexican grocer or at a farmer's market, well, they seem pretty delicious to me.

Some of the supermarkets in L.A. sell tortillas from local tortillerias as well as the mass-produced varieties.

To me they're quite different. Yes there there are tortillas of San Diego quality in el DF, but none I've tried (and I mean fresh tortillas from local tortillerias in SD) can compare to the those from the better tortillerias in el DF, or from small towns in the surrounding states. As different as a French baguette made in San Francisco from baguettes in Lyons. But this is way off topic :) No one in Bangkok, including T&S, is making tortillas as tasty as those in Mexico.

True, but I have to say that the corn tortilla I had at T&S on Sunday night with my beef taco was the best tortilla I have ever had in Thailand.

(And at the rish of taking this further off topic, I love Lyon and I love the bread there (well, all food there), but the baguettes and batards at the Saint Etoile, the Japanese company, are really in the ballpark.  Not as good, but certainly very acceptable.  I buy mine at the branch at the Mall Bang Khae.)

Just a thought.......many readers (including me) are Mexican language challenged. It would be nice to get translations for some of the words we are using, especially for the food items. For example, most readers probably have no idea what these food items are:"tortas" "caldo de camaron", cocltail de camarones, "pozole" "Ropa vieja".......and others......various forms of tacos, etc. Thanks.

You mean Spanish? why not just copy the words that are troubling you and paste into google? :)

Condescending is a two way street mate. Relax and go have a Corona. :D

Thank you (aka. gracias)........let me try one: ropa vieja (old clothes).........strange name. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I looked it up on Google images and it really looks good......maybe goat or beef, probably fried then boiled with spices for hours until totally tender (maybe some bell peppers strips added and onions). I think that would be good in a taco (flour or corn).

Given all the great reviews of your place, I am definitely hungry and wanting to eat there as soon as possible.

+1 for Google. Or Wiki.

Some might go so far as to suggest that if you don't know what these terms mean, you don't know Mexican food. But Google and Wiki can be very educational :D

True, but I have to say that the corn tortilla I had at T&S on Sunday night with my beef taco was the best tortilla I have ever had in Thailand.

I agree, the best I've had as well.

More Mexicans in L.A. than in Guadalajara...been a latino city for quite some time now, with or without Arnold's moronic mishandlings.
