Is It Possible To Get Digital Radio Over The Internet?

It may seem odd asking this as it's simple to get most radio stations from source over the internet but I'm thinking more about listening to live football on the BBC, any ideas?

I've done a search on Google but came up with nothing helpful...

there's an excellent progm for live tv and radio aswell as shows, daily tv news etc etc, the only drawback, it's in french.

not really a trouble as words are common or a dictionnary search will help you to understand what it is, you'll need to open ports in your routeur in both tcp and udp.

Which BBC station is it on?

It's BBC Radio 5live

Check out this link, right hand column 1/3 of the way down. You'll need RealPlayer installed if I remember correctly. A bit of a turkey to get going if you don't run Windows though.

Thank for the suggestion dave_boo, I listen to BBC radio all the time but maybe I didn't explain myself well enough - as soon as a live event comes up on BBC Radio 5live the commentry is replaced with a repeating broadcast telling me that 'because of legal obligations we are unable to broadcast in your region...' or something like that, it goes on to say 'also available on xx FM & xxxx AM or on Digital...' so I was really enquiring if it was possible to pick up broadcasts of digital radio over the internet as it seems this is the only way for me to listen to live commentary of Champions League etc

I get 5live over the internet but you can forget the champions league they can not broadcast it outside the UK.

my point exactly :o

Thanks for your suggestion, but I think I'll persvere with finding a digital broadcast as I can't understand a single word in French(apart from persévérer :D ) - that might prove a bit frustrating :D

The search goes on...

unfortunately only BBC radio 1, 2, 3 and 4 are available thru internet(just checked with adsltv)

What is it with you and ADSLTV NHJ?? Take a look on the BBC website and you'll see this: BBC RADIO HOMEPAGE - lots of standard radio stations plus links to regional stations...

But this is not what I'm asking, ADSLTV is not what I'm enquiring about, I'm enquiring about whether there is a service on the internet that anybody knows of that can intercept - in some way - digital live football broadcasts from BBC Radio 5live's coverage(which is only currently available either in the UK or DAB but I don't really want to buy a DAB receiver as I don't even think Bangkok/Thailand has reception)

Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.

IT SEEMS THAT MY LINKS ARE NOT WORKING BUT IT ONLY TAKES A MOMENT TO TYPE BBC INTO YOUR BROWSER AND FIND ALL OF THE STATIONS I'M TALKING ABOUT...NOT WHAT I WANT THOUGH.

i did recommend this program to friends from different nationalities, it has a list updated everyday with almost every radio and television available from the net in the entire world, you even have public webcam from different places in the world so you can see the eiffel tower or other known places.

sorry it's only in french but you need to know 2 words to use it , radio and television seems kinda similar to english isn't it ;-)

isn't it better to use an all in one program with recording capabilities instead of looking all the time the video flux on the website?

you could maybe try the program wich is totally free to see that all bbc radios regional or not are listed aswell as other radios/tv shows/tv channels you would be happy to discover and that you would never heard without it.

i'm not a programmer or affiliated to the project but i don't know any equivalent solution in another language than french.

I don't want to sit at my computer to watch TV, I've got a TV for that in my front room, if I want something specific then I download it and watch it at my pleasure - what I want is to listen to BBC DIGITAL RADIO over the internet whilst working in my office.

I know this may not be the best place to ask, maybe I should have asked somewhere a bit more specialised but I thought I'd try on my doorstep to begin with, oh well, I'm off to the geek forums elswhere to find this info, if anyones interested I'll post my findings here later...

Like i say its no problem to listen to the BBC over the internet but they can not broadcast live football.

you may be able to get a recording from the torrent sites, the place where the pirates keep there ships

springs to mind.

As for digital/dab they cant even cover all of the UK so no hope for the rest of us.

The BBC have a new thing called the I-Player that broadcasts TV shows again "this service is not available in your territory"

Its based on real player.

Let us know if you find out how to listen to football live.

off to the geeks with you.

you certainly didn't read my post completely, adsltv is offering you radio aswell as television but you have the choice to use only the radio part.

anyway if you wanna use something in english to listen radio, you can use the shoutcast radio option in winamp, they recently changed the engine search and added a lot more radios, they are classifid by genre and not by country unfortunately.

I've done a search on Google but came up with nothing helpful...

I usually listen to sky sports audio coverage of their Saturday afternoon program available anywhere (http://www.skysports.com/score_centre/0,20793,,00.html) , I know that they have audio broadcasts on individual

premiership games there as well but I've not tried the individual broadcasts and I don't know if they are available for games on other days of the week.

Cheers for that, I'll check it out over the weekend, useful info :o

I'm not sure if it's just my luck or a mistake by the BBC but I just started listening to BBC Radio 5live and got the last 10 mins of Blackburn vs. United... maybe I've tapped into something :o

you could always set up a PC in the UK with a tv/video/radio tuner card and then remote desktop connect to this PC from thailand. good internet connections at both ends would be necessary as would be a location in UK to host your PC. you could then watch UK tv, listen to UK radio etc... just as if you were in the UK. you can even remotely control sky boxes using remote blasters if you need the pay tv channels etc...

Optionally, you can run something like "Media Portal server" software to create you own interface for your custom media requirements.

i've done this before from thailand to new zealand.
