Thaksin holds the key : Anand

"With due respect, I feel that former premier Thaksin is the only person who can crack the deadlock," Anand said.

.....edit.... "I have no advice for Khun Thaksin. If he really intends to help ease the political tensions, he could do it right away. Khun Thaksin is clever and has good judgement. He doesn't need to consult anyone,"

.....edit...

The government of Somchai Wongsawat, a brother-in-law of Thaksin, could do the job if it were independent enough, he said.

Well, a clear statement which says what a many are thinking, Taksin is THE MAN behind all this!

Anand couldn't have made it any clearer for all to understand who is pulling the strings, if Taksin would stop, there would be unity, peace and calm, but there is very little chance that he will, not till he has won 'his' fortune and fame back!

Poor Thailand, I feel very, very, sorry for this!

Held at ransom by an egomaniac blown out of proportions!

That recording will likely be very interesting if it ever surfaces.

But I imagine LOTS of money is being thrown at making it disappear...

Hopefully this recording is in hand from someone who will not accept any money!

Time is changing in Thailand and right now there a lot of Thais who fed up with the existing corrupt systems which Thailand has for so many years.

Unfortunate there still a lot around, on this forum as well, who supporting that corrupt society and the Thaksin supporters are the worst of those.

Cheers.

I don't understand how someone can still support Thaksin. But I think that might be all about money.

I expect that Nick Nolstix to be there and shower lots of praise on this democratic movement, led by the champion of democracy himself, Samak Sundaravej, leader of 1976 uprising against Thammasat students.

The MPs are boasting that each of them can bring a thousand supporters to protect them from PAD, they just give a call, and support will be there. Nick Nolstitz would have a great time describing it as grassroot movement against "elites".

"People Power" my ass.

You really have it in for Nick don't you. It's utterly transparent why.

Turning to Samak he wasn't the leader of the 1976 reactionary forces as you very well know, merely an unsavoury cheerleader from the sides. It's a typical distortion of facts as the main backers are precisely those forces which back (and finance) the PAD.There are indeed so many ironies here.

In all fairness YH you can find the backers and supporters of the 1976 crackdown on both sides and you can find the ones cracked down on on both sides. It is ironic but at the end of the day this about a power struggle framed within the traditional Thai power elite and as such doesnt have polical ideologies (both may throw them around for show but...) so it is not even that surprising. Polical power struggles are not usually betwen nice people. Never have been probbaly never will be but this one is extremely dirty.

At the end of the day it looks more like one side will win and one lose right now although that may be shrouded in an attempt to present it as more even handed, but it does seem to be nearing a conclusion and after three years it is probably time althoguh I for one am not going to make a prediction on the final way it falls.

The upshot for the people will be they will get a guided democracy of one of a two kinds:

Semi-appointed, semi-elected and with very strong checks and balances on policians and weak local goevrnment

Totally elected with strong guidance from partisan village headmen with no to few checks and balances on politicians and weak local government.

Maybe when this is all over and what actually happened sinks in people or at least more of them will start to think what is actually good for them rather than listen to toehr peopel tell them what is good for them.

Somkiart Demands to Know Identity of Man Responsible for Black Tuesday

UPDATE : 15 October 2008

Key People's Alliance for Democracy leader Somkiart Pongpaiboon demanded to know the identity of the man who said “no war is without casualties” during the October 6th emergency Cabinet meeting.

He’s urged the public to keep a close eye on the anti-corruption commission’s ruling on PM Somchai Wongsawat’s fraud allegation tomorrow.

Last night Somkiart Pongpaiboon took the PAD stage to address the PAD protesters at Government House. Like other key speakers on the PAD stage last night, Somkiart also spoke at length about the October 14th student uprising in 1973.

According to Somkiart, the PAD rally has been extremely peaceful when compared to what took place in October, 35 years ago. He pointed out that during the democratic struggles from October 14th to October 6th to Bloody May, fires have been set to government buildings and properties. The PAD leader then highlighted the fact that the PAD has been gathering for more than 100 days, yet no damage of such extent have been caused by the peaceful rally-goers.

Somkiart then spoke about the violent teargas attacks that took place last Tuesday. He’s demanded former Deputy PM General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh to reveal the identity of the man who said “no war is without its casualties” during the emergency Cabinet meeting just hours before the near-dawn crackdown took place. If General Chavalit failed to clarify the matter, Somkiart called for the general to take responsibility for the violence that broke out.

He’s also demanded to know who gave the order to the Metropolitan Police and the Border Patrol Police to use weapon-grade teargas against the PAD protesters.

The climax of his speech was the disclosure of another legal case which has been filed against PM Somchai Wongsawat. Somkiart revealed that the National Counter Corruption Commission will hand down its ruling whether to indict PM Somchai on charges of malfeasance tomorrow.

The case was launched against PM Somchai in 2006 when he was still permanent-secretary to the Justice Ministry. Somchai has been linked to alleged irregularities in the auction of a land plot in Pathum Thani's Thanyaburi district by the Legal Execution Department. Pramarn Tiyapaiboonsin, a former chief of the department, and his deputy Manit Suthaporn have already been found guilty of corruption in the case.

PM Somchai has been accused of malfeasance for allegedly turning a blind eye on the officials’ wrongdoing.

If the NCCC believes there are grounds to believe Somchai is guilty, it’ll forward the case to the Supreme Court’s Division for Political Post Holders.

Could anyone please enlighten me who is: Nick Nolstitz?

A search, not on Thaivisa only but with all Search engines just bring up one name and that isL: Nick Nostitz

Thanks.

You got it, that's the one...!

He runs a blog as well, someone did put some of his pics and lines in here too.... but as it has been stated, he is probably not independent as a blogger, maybe on a payroll...at least biased, pro-Taksin! Braggs about undercover "friends" within the PAD...

Anyone attend the DAAD rally at the victory monument last night?

I drove by and man there were lots of thugs. I mean these guys were armed with masks and bats and various other weapons. They were standing around like guards wanting to pick a fight. Only a few police though.

I wanted to take a picture but was scared they would bash my car.

Well, keep out of trouble!

"Can't take it anymore!" Cries the sibling....

"Chavalit then went to the Metropolitan Police Bureau and gave two instructions: police should gently negotiate with the protesters to allow MPs into the Parliament building; and if this failed, they should do nothing more.

However, the police cracked down on the protesters with tear gas. The clash claimed two lives and injured more than 400.

A close Chavalit aide, Chavalit Witchayasuth, claimed: "The police from Metropolitan did not listen to Chavalit's commands."

Do we take it, then, that police will listen only to police?

There are two former policemen in the Cabinet who played a crucial role in the incident: Chalerm and Interior Minister Kowit Watana. To whom would the police be more likely to listen?

As well, there was a long-distance call, with the message: "It's too much. I can't take it any more."

Excerpt from The Nation

Source:

Finally everyone exposes himself trough his deeds!

What can one expect of a camp of rouges and thugs?

"Funny" that one more time chalerm is involved again... isn't it?

So, just a German extremist and freelance photographer/journalist is the one who need to "shower lots of praise on this democratic movement" to the DAAD protesters?! Oh My Buddha!

Loose all words about that!

"I can't take it anymore", "No war is without the casualties" - those are damning words.

Thaksin lackeys against the people, and a clear demand to state your loyalties from senior citizens like Anand - it will all end very very badly for those who make the wrong choice.

Interestingly, Samak might go off at the coming DAAD rally and dish it out to Thaksin to his heart content. He'll probably take the raincheck, btw.

Thaksin holds the key : Anand

Former PM says UK exile is only person who can break deadlock

Former premier Anand Panyarachun yesterday urged Thaksin Shinawatra to help defuse the country's political crisis, saying he holds the key to breaking the stalemate.

"With due respect, I feel that former premier Thaksin is the only person who can crack the deadlock," Anand said.

He was speaking after presiding over the cremation of Pol Lt-Colonel Methee Chatmontri, a member of |the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

Anand said he was not accusing Thaksin of being behind the impasse, but that he had merely come to such a conclusion after considering all the angles. "I have no advice for Khun Thaksin. If he really intends to help ease the political tensions, he could do it right away. Khun Thaksin is clever and has good judgement. He doesn't need to consult anyone," Anand said.

The government of Somchai Wongsawat, a brother-in-law of Thaksin, could do the job if it were independent enough, he said.

Thaksin is now spending his second round of self-imposed exile in Britain after jumping bail in a corruption case and escaping to the country, where his family maintains a mansion. He and his wife Pojaman have applied for asylum there on grounds that the Thai justice system is incapable of ensuring a fair trial for them.

Anand, who served as prime minister after the coup of 1991 and again after the Black May incident of 1992, said he hoped to see no more violence following the police break-up of an anti-government demonstration on October 7 that left two protesters dead and hundreds of people wounded, including policemen.

Anand and PAD leaders were among the grievers attending the funeral rites at Somanas Rajaworaviharn Temple for Methee, a retired policeman who was the head of the guards for PAD supporters.

Anand also visited Vichuda Radabpanyawuth, the mother of Angkana Radabpanyawuth, the other protester killed during the crackdown. Vichuda, who lost some toes in the incident, is recovering at Siriraj Hospital.

a rebuttal??? :o

Spokesman: Thaksin not in position to end turmoil

It is not necessary for ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra to follow the suggestion of former PM Anand Panyarachun, who called on him to end the political deadlock because he is not the one who could put an end to the turmoil, his spokesman Pongthep Thepkanchana said Wednesday. His statement came after Mr Anand, who attended the cremation ceremony of a victim from last week's tear-gas crackdown, said after the funeral that only Thaksin could bring an end to the mounting political confrontation. He was not certain the current government had the independence to make a decision on its own. "If Thaksin really wants to ease the political tension, he is a clever man and mature enough to take action right away, without suggestions from anybody," Mr Anand said. Pongthep said he does not have to inform Thaksin about Mr Anand's statement, saying that Thaksin usually keeps abreast of the news so he would know the current situation. When asked if Thaksin would return his Thai diplomatic passport, Pongthep said he does not know about the

Well, this is the FOXNEWS of SouthEast Asia, with a right-wing pro-PAD slant. Sure, the international news sources are far more neutral than anything in Thailand. But, still TV remains fun for flushing out the nationalists!

Chaowarin: PM slams Porntip for speaking too much about riot.

Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat said it was not the job of forensic expert Porntip Rojanasunan to speak out about the persons behind the order of the firing of teargas to disperse anti-government protesters last Tuesday, People Power party MP Chaowarin Latthasaksiri said Wednesday.

According to Mr Chaowarin, Mr Somchai said Khunying Porntip was assigned to find out whether teargas contains explosive substances, but she went beyond her assignment by talking to the press about the persons in charge of the order that day.

He also said that the premier is feeling tired, and that his work is loaded during this time.

The truth hurts a bit for Somchai. Poor guy, feeling a little tired does he? :o

Bidding for 3 Spectacular Artworks to Raise Funds for Oct 7 Injuries

UPDATE : 15 October 2008

The Artist Network of the People’s Alliance for Democracy is holding an auction of three superb artworks to raise funds to help those injured and killed during the October 7 police crackdown on the PAD protestors.

The first artwork is by Thana Laohakaikul, Professor Emeritus from Texas University in the United States, who has his work showcased at the Smithsonian.

Professor Thana said he was present during the October 7 bloodshed and he saw with his own eyes a man by his side had the sole of his foot blown off. He would like to help by auctioning this sculpture he completed 39 years ago. This is the eighth out of the nine pieces he made, resembling Chiang Saen Buddha images, cast in bronze.

The second artwork is an 80 by 100 centimeters painting by Ekkachai Luadsungnern, Thailand’s famous impressionist artist.

Ekkachai said he finished this artwork last year in Khao Yai. He was inspired by the Cassia Bakeriana Craib or Kalapapruek tree that was in full bloom. It portrays the love of the land that is transported through the trunk of the tree into the blooming flowers, which shows the endless love the PAD heroes have for the country, for the people, and for the monarchy.

The last artwork is a 100 by 100 centimeter painting, titled ‘Rain at Makawan Bridge’ by Wasant Sitthiket.

Wasant said he painted this picture in June and he wanted to show the dedication of the PAD protestors in their fight at Makawan Bridge despite the rain and sunshine. He originally wanted to keep the piece for a future show but changed his mind to help those injured during October 7.

Biddings for the three artworks can be received at 086-324-4444 and 085-048-0411 through to midnight on October 15, 2008.

Highest Bid (at 11 am, October 15, 2008)

1. Sculpture by Thana Laohakaikul 1,800,000 baht

2. Painting by Ekkachai Luadsungnern 500,000 baht

3. Painting by Wasant Sitthiket 500,000 baht

Let me get this right, this guy either tells them to gently negotiate or do nothing, this guy has truly gone mad, the PAD had no business trying to block parliament, and the police action was justified. No government can allow that. The only question is the use of excessive force, not the action itself.

Again, they should have dealt with the PAD weeks ago, when they first occupied government house.

Just said and here is the clear answer: "NO! I'll go the whole nine yards!"

And he will, his ego has been hurt, money is a plenty, but it's the ego of a five foot man and the quest for power, he won't stop unless he is stopped!

Just look at the many willing and obedient lackeys surrounding him like a flock of hungry wolves, a snap with the finger and they are out for whatever the "Master" demands, see "Black Tuesday"!

Sad, so sad... an entire Nation must suffer because of the hurt Ego of one man!

Anything new you trying to tell the audience?

So, then the logically the question must surface "why, didn't they deal with this protest and occupation of Government House much sooner, same day"?

Why, why,why?

Did anybody wanted it to be this way right from the beginning - is the naturally emerging question looming beyond all this... isn't it?

Why, why, why....?

and with which intention...?

Watson, Dr. Watson?

Nothing new at all. As to the reason why they didn't do anything, I don't know, maybe because they were scared of a militairy coup, maybe they had other reasons. I for one don't know, and I'm betting you don't either. But of course you're free to make any assumption as to the reason why.

Chaowarin has been a bit of a hot-head... or fire-starter (take your pick from last year)...

A tough job for election panel

Whether Chaowarin Latthasaksiri, a People Power Party-list candidate, really meant what he said, his warning that the country would burn if the party were dissolved for electoral violations :D could be deemed both a threat and a challenge to the Election Commission. Apparently the PPP candidate was concerned that the EC would investigate the allegation made by Veera Somkwamkid that many VCDs had been widely distributed in the North and Northeast in which former PM Thaksin Shinawatra urged people to vote for the PPP.

I wonder with PPP's case being accepted by the Constitution Court yesterday, if Chaowarin has gotten his box of matches ready...

*please accept my re-formatting of your post to comply with TV protocol, frodo* :D

btw, here is People Power Party MP Police Lieutenant Chaowarin Latthasaksiri:

Personal Spokesman and one of 111 banned former TRT MP Phongthep Thepkanchana

Thaksin's Spokesman disagrees that former PM is key to solving national situation

Personal Spokesman Phongthep Thepkanchana [TRT Banned #10] to ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra [TRT Banned #1] voiced disagreement to comments made by former Prime Minister Anand Panyarachun claiming Thaksin is the key to resolving conflicts within Thailand.

Pongthep revealed that Thaksin has constantly kept abreast of current events in the Kingdom and relayed Thaksin's disagreement with sentiments that only he can end political and social turmoil.

The Spokesman alluded to the fact that many of the factors involved in the current situation are not directly tied to Thaksin, such as the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) rally at the Government House. *PAD rallies are not tied to Thaksin???* :D :D

Phongthep said the PAD rally could not be dispersed by any of the ex-premier's actions. *but they could by his words directing the actions of others?* :D

When asked about Thaksin's memo to current Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat to return his diplomatic passport, Pongthep said he does not know if the passport has been returned. *besides it being odd his "Personal Spokesman" doesn't know, but I think someone would have confirmed it if he had returned it* :D:o

He affirmed however that Thaksin is in the process of requesting political asylum in the United Kingdom.
