My missus (not legally married) wants to pop over and see here sister in Holland, perhaps drop in the UK and at some point wants to see some friends in Oz.

Now she has cash, some businesses in Thailand (not registered companies so not really official), a baby here (with me) but she doesn't yet own any property in her own name.

So I'm wondering just what she has to do to pass whatever tests there are. Previously her sister sponsored her to go to Holland (twice) and she returned well within the visa stipulations but she is now somewhat independent and wants to know what she has to show to pass on her own account.

Obviously she has reasons to return, both for family and business but it is how they would look at the cash position which we are cautious about. She could theoretically show 7 figures in baht which I presume would be enough for any reasonable short term stay.

Any ideas ?

I would suggest she fill in the appropriate forms for a UK, Schengen and Australian visit visa, providing whatever they ask for.

As far as the UK is concerned she will need to show that she is a genuine visitor, can support and accommodate herself while in the UK (with a sponsors help if need be) and will leave the UK when or before her visa expires.

Having had previous Dutch visas and complied with their conditions will certainly stand her in good stead as far as a UK visa is concerned; probably for the Oz one as well.

I follow what you said 7by7 but I prefer to take on the role of barrister, namely to already know the answers to every question I ask. In this context and not wanting to use any form of sponsorship, does anyone know where the bar is for acceptance. Knowing that in advance, she can position herself to clear the hurdle rather than jumping and not knowing where the bar is.

The sponsorship usually works best in the case of Schengen visa. For the Netherlands, the requirements are pretty good documented at the Dutch embassy Bangkok website.

Scroll down to tourist visa.

In your wife's case, if she doesnt'want to take the sponsorship route, she needs to show funds (bankstatements), she must have enough money to support herself, if I'm not mistaken the daily amount would be 35 euro.

Anyway, the link above will have all the relevant requirements. As you said, she already applied (succesfully) twice, so the biggest hurdle (afraid that she doesn't leave the country) has been taken so to speak.

Thanks for that. Just done a dummy run through the UK online one but it is very vague as to what it requires to substantiate income etc. As no tax records are available, we'll have to think about that one. LOads of cash in the bank might be one way and just say no job but owns assets ? Will think on it.

In regard to the UK there is no specific bar to reach, there is no points system set and once achieved, voilà the door opens, a VV is based on certain criteria and discretion.

There are certain track lines to fit within:

They have within the balance of probabilities be satisfied that she will return to Thailand. Put in the application as much evidence that will corroborate this reasoning, strong family ties, business, land etc.

Enough money to finance the trip, so that there will be no recourse to public funds, family can help to finance this.

An invitation with suitable accommodation would be good, or an itinerary showing where she will stay, with the wherewithal to pay for it.

So she can prepare on her own, or with sponsors, showing evidence of the above and she is in the mix, two previously complied VV's albeit in another country will help.

Good Luck

Thanks Moss,

My research seems to back up what you and other posters have commented on in that it seems far more subjective for visas to the UK. Running through the online application as a test was interesting and raised some provoking thoughts.

The first was whether she is married. Now they do have a "partner" answer which then diverts to information about him (in this case me). However the title of the application page is marital status which is not the same as who you live with. The second is children (we have a daughter) but I see no reason why she should say our daughter would be going (does not need visa).

I don't want her piggy backing no me as a sponsor nor do I want her to have to piggy back on me or her sister for a trip to Holland. I suppose I want her t start to establish her own profile, based on her alone, without me having to go showing my finances.

I would be at a slight loss to see why someone who had significant cash assets (let's say 7 figures) would be denied a visa for a few weeks trip, irrespective of some other questions. Of course the biggest is the desire to return but the baby and business should be enough for that I would think. If not, then I could never understand why they let ex hookers in with guys who have low paid jobs and the girl has no assets or cash to her name ?

Perhaps a reservation at a 5* hotel would be in order as well.

Loads of cash in the bank, is not really what they are after , any boyfriend can just dump some money into account and make it look like hers, they prefer to see at least

6 months of consistent income, saying no job but owns assets will be hard because it comes back down to how she will support herself when OS , they really prefer a fixed consistent job showing regular salary and a copy of work contract showing terms of employment ,holiday entitlement etc helps.
