Hello there,

We've been in Thailand for almost one month now without a visa (just the stamp upon entry) and we'll need to leave the country soon. We would like to stay for another 5-6 months and are looking for more information about the visa with 6 month validity, 2 to 4 entry tourist visa. Does this visa still exist?

We're from Spain/USA.

And does anyone have recommendations on which country is best to go to take care of this paperwork? In regards to most economical and most fluid processing.

Thanks for any thoughts on these matters!

Vientiane Laos is least expensive destination for getting a tourist visa. They issue 2 entry 60 day visas that can be extended for 30 days here at immigration. After 90 days you will have to go across the border and return to use the 2nd entry.

Thanks for the quick response and link.

We'd like to clarify a couple of things.

At the time that we apply for the visas we have already been 30 days in Thailand with just the stamp, no visa required.

Do these 30 days will affect our chances on getting the 2 entry 60 day visa and then the 30 day extension?

And to be honest, we're not clear on how this works for the 2nd entry.

We always thought that the validity of a visa is for the time it says in it (60 days in this case) counting from the date of first arrival.

How is it possible they would give us another 60 days at the 2nd entry with the same visa? And you mean that you can extend it 30 more days? That would be great, and we hope it's true, but still are not very clear the details about how this X2 visa works.

Would be also great if anyone can help us with this issue for we should be flying to Vientiane next week.

Best.

You will get a double entry tourist visa. Each entry for 60 days. The first entry of 60 days can be extended at Immigration for a further 30 days(1,900 Baht).

Check the expiry date of the visa. You would probably have to exit and re enter a few days before the 30 day extension finishes and get your 2nd 60 day entry. This can also be extended at Immigration for 30 days.

Giving you almost 6 months.

I saw a post on the Udonmap web site where a 30 day extension was denied because he could not show a ticket out of the country within that 30 day period. This was in Nong Kai. Is this the rule? What can you do if your plans are to get 2 extensions, one for each entry and stay the 6 months as outlined above?

It is not the rule and the first I have heard of this being done. There could be other reasons that this was done but not given by the writer. Any one time report/complaint should be ignored or at least questioned.

As long as the use before date has not expired you can leave and re-enter the country (1 day before use by date is ok) after getting the first 30 day extension and then extend that entry without any problem.

The 30 day entries will have no effect on getting a 2 entry tourist visa.

I think you are confusing the length of stay allowed and the used by date that will be on the stamp/sticker when visa is issued. I think Vientiane is putting a 90 day use by date on the visas it issues.

As long as you leave and re-enter at least one day before the use by date or your permited to stay date you will get another 60 day stay using a 2 entry visa. You can then get another 30 day extension of that entry.
