Hi all,

I read through some posts here and found there are many helpful people here - so I hope I can get some advice here too.

I'm German, 26, and I want to stay in Thailand for 1 year beginning in December '08 (next month). I have a ticket with return after 60 days - but will let the return flight expire. So unless otherwise advised, I'll apply for a 60 day visa here in Germany, enter Thailand and continue from there.

What's the best way to do it?

I've dug through some of the infos on the forum, but find it challenging to sort things out.

So far, longest time I stayed in Thailand was 3 months, with one visa run to Cambodia. But from reading the forum here, I understood that this can't be done indefinetely. This year, I've been in Thailand only once for 3 weeks in May.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help. Anyone helping out, if you're in Bangkok I'd love to invite you for some jummy food with friends, or if you need something from 'good ole Germany', let me know and I'll see if I can bring it.

What about getting a Non-ED visa, i.e. register in some school for one year course. Think about doing something in university or other language institutes.

Get a Non-Immigrant 365 days with multiple entries. Officially you havce to be at least 50 years old, but for some reason the consulate in Stuttgart gives out the 1 year visa to everyone. Only requirement was a bank statement showing that you have a certain amount of money. Just give them a call. I received the visa without any problems at all.

And with this visa you are allowed to book just a one way ticket.

If unable to get one year non immigrant visa exlka mentioned. Using the same honorary consulate you could get 2 or 3 entry tourist visa. With this visa you get 60 days per entry that can be extended for 30 (1000 baht) days at immigration.

A 2 entry visa would give you about 6 months without having to get a new visa. If you can get a 3 entry with a use by date of 6 months from issue you would not need a new visa for almost 9 months.

When this expires you can get another Visa in a neighbouring country to Thailand.

As said try for the Non O Multi first.

thank you so much, today I received my Non O multiple from the Stuttgart embassy! 1 full year in Thailand with no visa worries.

Celebrated that with a great dinner with friends :-)

If there's anything I can do for you, please let me know. You guys absolutely made my day!

Thanks again,

Don't forget the border runs every 90 days. If you do one just before the Visa expires you will get another 90 days. Making it 15 months in total.

some one told me it's possible to avoid the border runs by having money in a thai bank account. I've heard about the 800k rule for retirees. But is there an equivalent for us younger guys? The person i spoke to speculated about 3 millionen thb. Is there any truth to this ?

The 3 million investment visa is no longer available.

You can set a up a company and get a work permit and then a one year extension.

You can go to school and learn Thai and get a 1 year or 90 day extensions.

Or get a Thai elite card. I think its 1.5 million now.

He already got the multiple entry visa, so why would he need to go to school? All he needs to do is grab the casino bus from Lumpini Park to Cambodia every 90 days.

He already got the multiple entry visa…

He, who?

I take the posts after the question posted by exlka to be in reply to that question, and he asked about the possibility of avoiding border runs.
