The work permit will depend on what type of business your father in law is, how big it is, number of employees and etc. You need to get started on that.

Your work permit will be only be as long as your visa. Which at this time is only 90 days.

Traveling within Thailand should not affect your work permit. As long as you don't leave Thailand no problem for your visa. Remember you are going to have to leave to get your 2nd entry for your visa after 90 days.

If you are working to get income proof for a one year extension of your visa. The best way would be for your wife to work for the family at a salary of 40,000 baht (real or not) per month for 3 months prior to the date of application and use tax reciepts for those 3 months. After that then if you have your work permit the next time you could show a combined income of 40,000 per month.

A double entry non-O? You either have a single entry non-O or a multiple entry non-O, which is valid for one year. Only a tourist visa can be a double entry. Better check again what kind of visa you have.

They changed that rule early this year. Nowadays, the length of work permits do nor depend on expiry date of visas. Actually, they never have - they used to depend on expiry date of permitted-to-stay-until stamps, which are quite independent of visas. Three weeks ago I got a new stamp in my work permit stating I was admitted to work until October 19, 2009.... This despite my latest visa got totally invalid way back in 2005 and my latest extension-of-stay-stamp spelled "Admitted until November 19, 2008".

Ignore that bit about "Extension of stay not permitted", it is simply not correct.

Just the embassy/consulate covering their a**s.

If you meet the requirements you can get a one year extension, and so on,

and stay for many years.

However you must meet the requirements, 40K baht a month of family income.

I sort of new what you were planning since I had replied in a previous topic you posted. You will be okay working a month and then takeing a month off.

The double entry made me think a little also. Just a little suprised since most consulates now only offer a single or multiple entry visa. In the past it was quite common.

As astral said ignore the "extension of stay not permitted" stamp it means nothing to immigration here.

I remember somebody saying it was just the consulate playing with their stamps.

Glad to help.

Joe
