I've landed 4 days ago on Koh Samui to have a nice holiday, but It has been raining every day so i've decided to go to Pattaya instead.

I got to hear the bad news this morning when i wanted to book a flight to Bangkok, the airport is closed until further notice. Nice!

There's a daily flight going to Pattaya, but the first available flight is next Sunday. That means i have to wait 5 more days on the rainy Samui.

The other option is to go by Ferry to comporn, take a bus to Bangkok, and from Bangkok by bus or taxi to Pattaya. The downside is, that trip will take more than 24 hours. Also, people will try to find an alternative route to bangkok so the ferry will be overcrowded on a rough sea. Anyone going by ferry now in the monsoon period deserves a Darwin award.

Does anybody know how i can get in Pattaya asap? Fly to chiang Mai -> Pattaya? or ???

What about the lomprayah high speed catamaran? Which one is better?

you've had reall bad luck. The ferries and catamaran service will be fine, just a question of deciding where to go.If its Phuket, check weather first,if its ok book ticket at travel agent, ferry plus coach about 600 baht.

If you decide to go to Pattaya, you could take the catamaran to chumphon(5 hours)then a coach takes you to khao san road bangkok, the bus takes about 8 hours, the total cost is 1200baht.once you get to khao san rg.pick up a cab to Pattaya, about 2 hour trip, fare 1000-1500baht,so total time taken samui to pattaya about 16hours.good luck.

19:00 Surat Thani ( URT) Thai Airways Intl (TG)

20:10 Bangkok ( DMK)

Thanks for all the tips guys.

I think my best and most safe bet is to stay on Koh Samui until Sunday, and then take the flight to Pattaya.

I don't like the idea of many people on a small boat during the monsoon period. Yeah call me chickenshit but i had a bad experience on a ferry before.

You'll see the rebels will take over all airports on Sunday just to piss me off.

Thanks John for mentioning that! All seats were taken when I called bangkok airways this afternoon.

I've been reading newsstories about the recent happenings in Bangkok lately. Now i'm uncertain if i should fly to Pattaya or not. It sounds like this situation is going to get out of control soon. Pattay is close to Bangkok.... So is it safer to stay in Koh Samui? Or am i worrying too much?

Edit: unable to book, the system says i have to book the ticket 24 hours before departure. I'll rush to the airport tomorrow to check if i can get the ticket anyway.

Probably a stupid question but why did you came to Samui in the middle of the rainy season?

As said you have boats , trains , buses and planes to escape.

Yes you are worrying too much.

Newsstories and worried family+friends make me panic haha

Wrong....I live in Korat and we have bright sunshine . Last night I just got back from four gorgeous days in Koh Chang with calm seas and sun and Pattaya is the same I think as it is only a short distance from Koh Chang. I found it hard to believe how calm the sea was as it is the same piece of water that Samui shares, but believe me on sunday we had a five island boat trip and swam and snorkelled and it was great.

Samui is nearing the end of it's annual northeast monsoon now.

It's just not a good time for holidays.

Pattaya and koh chang, whilst on the same water, does not get the northeast monsoon.

People used to moan about developments such as Tesco's, but at least it's somewhere to go. Cinema, bowling etc.

after this debacle all customers should just stage a sit in protest against the bar owners and demand drinks when a closure is due (being considerate protesters you will pay for them to so no-one loses face) the police wont appear until well after it is all over so no worries :o

....why not hop on the ferry to Surat Thani,...get a train from there to Bangkok..or stagger your journey and have a look around Rayong,......for me its such a pleasure travelling in Thailand ,.....it's almost better than arriving.....in LOS you are never going be short of places to stay, cheap options of transport and nice people to meet.Don't sit on a beach EXPLORE!!!

I heared that they have rerouted some international flights to Phukets airport.

Isn´t there any airlines flying from Suratthani to Pattaya?

Perhaps I remember wrong.

Otherwise the bus sounds like a good idea.

I hope things work out for you.

Take care.
