With all that's been going on in LOS I am in need of a Beer Lao drunk viewing the Mekong from the Laos side.

Anybody know if the traffic to Laos from Mukdahan has been heavy with passengers exiting LOS to fly to other destinations or even to get their passports stamped.

Can't stand crowds

A friend bought a bottle of Johnnie Red while he stayed in the Hoong Thip in Savannakhet and is adamant that it was a copy, charged 1000 THB and poured it all down the sink.

Any more experiences of that?

Lastly anywhere pleasant to stay, I usaly stay at the Hoong Thip or the Hotel Mekong

Thanks

Thanks

i am planning on going into laos in january - can anyone tell me how much alcohol ( spirits) i can bring back into thailand - if i am reading the regulations correctly it is a max of 1 liter - does this differ for thai citizens? how closely is this monitored at the border?

whats the best place to buy in Vientiane? i have heard that the shops in town are cheaper than the duty free at the bridge-

Is there a safe place to park a car in NongKhai near the bridge when i go across the border for a couple of days? Thanks

The wife & I are driving up to Nong Khai tomorrow, Sunday, will leave the van at the secure parking where you catch the van's across the bridge. By "secure," at least it seems so, have been parking there 1-3 times a year for 10 years or so, no problem. The area is fenced off with a gate and guard/payment taker. Baht 100/day.

We'll be staying for one night at the Mali Namphu Guest House, handy, right downtown, around the corner from the Kop Chai Deu eatery, 1 1/2 blocks to the Mekong. Best to email about reservations:

Returning with booze? I figure best not to take a chance with Thai Customs, might check, usually don't. But "might" is the operative word here.
