Mp Bows Out On Ungodly Note

Featured Replies

A little known South Aussie MP retired recently. She had some interesting views.

OUTGOING Democrat Sandra Kanck has used her last sitting day to question why messages promoting atheism have been banned from appearing on public transport.

Ms Kanck who is ending her 15 year career, said she had been contacted by the Atheist foundation who had been told they could not pay to have phrases such as 'atheism because there is no credible evidence', 'sleep in on Sundays and 'atheism celebrates reason,' printed on public transport.

She said similar messages such as 'there is probably no god so stop worrying and enjoy your life' and 'why believe in god, just be good for goodness sake,' were displayed on public transport in London and Washington.

"Here in South Australia the atheist foundation has raised $16,000 to put advertisements on busses but they have been refused by APN Outdoor the company that manages public transport advertising in most Australian capitals including Adelaide," she said.

"I have seen ads bearing quotes from the bible... and I know that some non religious people find this offensive.

Ms Kanck also used her Valedictory speech to state that her greatest regret was when parliament removed her speech on voluntary euthanaisia where she explicitly outline suicide methods - from the internet version of the Hansard.

She also listed the Mullighan inquiry, reporting requirements and SA's first human rights bill as her biggest achievements.

Premier Mike Rann said Ms Kanck was an eccentric politician whose presence would be missed.

'why believe in god, just be good for goodness sake,'

I quite like that one :o

You'd better watch out, you'd better take care .........

Soon be Christmas.

I still don't understand why atheists want to be evangelical??? :o But yeah, let them post their 'beliefs' and allow people to make up their own mind!

Jai Dee's tag line comes to mind here

Taoism: shit happens

Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit

Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah

Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

:o

Because they have the same right as you to promote their beliefs? Why is it that only religionists are entitled to promote what they believe in? Why do you enclose the word 'beliefs' in inverted commas when they apply to non-religionists?

Hey, read my post - I have no problem them promoting their beliefs, and I did add 'allow people to make up their own mind'! However, I put 'beliefs' as they don't believe. How many of us promote what we don't believe? Just seems a bit ironic to me...
