Fire breaks out at Ban Krua community in heart of Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- A fire broke out at the Ban Krua community near the Siam Square Friday.

Police said the blaze started at 11:30 am and fire engines were attempting to put it out.

A fire was near to the Pratunam Intersection today at noon. But the fire police killed it very quickly. Was looks like from some of the construction place near to the Pratunam Klong.

Apparently nothing on the opposite side of the klong to Jim Thompson's house. My condo is just behind there and apparently all quiet. If that lot went up in flames it might just be enough to toast us!

This is about 1.25 km further along the klong from JT's House. The soi, IIRC, runs from between Siam Paragon and Wat Patum Wanaram, dog-legs around the back of what was the World Trade Centre (now Central World) and exits by some permanent building sites near the bridge on Ratchadami.

I walked through there once a year or two ago looking for a short cut to Pratunam/Pantip. The opening near the wat was full of lunch stalls for the office workers but it continues into a shanty community, not particulalry threatening but I was definitely out of the tourist area.
