Hi,

I have a Non-imm. B, 1 year visa with multiple entry.

Due to one of the worst hangovers in my life, I was not able to go immigration and get my passport stamped on the 4th of December for the end of my first 3 months.

With the King's birthday today and the week-end tomorrow, the immigration office will be closed for the next 3 days.

Does that mean I will have to pay for these 3 days of overstay?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If its the 90 day reporting you are taking about you have 7 days either way of the reporting date to do this...so doing it on the 8th is not a problem

If you have a multiple entry visa valid for 1 year you have to leave the country everyn 90 days, not just go to immigration every 90 days.

If however during your stay applied for a 1 year extension (based on retirement, or being married to a Thai national for example), once you get this 1 year extension you will have to report to immigration every 90 days to confirm your address.

If you are in the first scenario, you will have to leave Thailand ASAP (any land border will do), and when leaving you will get fines 500 Baht per day you are in overstay. Returning will give you a fresh 90 day stay...

If you have a VISA obtained from a consulate outside Thailand you MUST leave the country every 90 days, immigration cannot extend your stay (except in the scenarios noted by Monty). In this case you are on overstay and must pay 500 Baht per day when you exit. Note that certain border crossings (Cambodia?) will not permit you to cross if you have an overstay in your passport.

Contrary to what Monty says (not often I disagree with him) land borders are not recommended if you are on overstay, get caught up in a checkpoint and you're in a world of hurt :o

If you have an EXTENSION of stay obtained from immigration in Thailand you must report your address every 90 days, you have seven days leeway for this report without penalty.

Oh sh*t!!!!

Yes, I got my visa from a consulate outside Thailand...It is not an extension

And Yes, I would need to cross in Cambodia...

What do you guys recommend? :D

Are you sure of that???

On the website of the consulate where I got my visa, that's what they say:

ATTENTION : Lors de l'obtention de ce visa avec plusieurs entrées, il est obligatoire de sortir du pays ou de se rendre à un bureau d'immigration (suivant l'endroit de votre séjour) avant la fin du délai de 90 jours dès l'entrée sur territoire thaïlandais!

Which mean : When you obtain this multiple entry visa, you MUST go out of the country or go to an immigration office ( depending on where you are staying) before the end of the 90 days...

Pffff... Ok, I just booked a border run to Hadlek border, Cambodia for tomorrow...I hope everything will be ok.

It's crazy that they say BS on the consulate web page though :o

Good luck.

Do us a favor and ask your fellow border runners if they got 30 or 15 day visa exempt entries. We haven't got any reports on that from anybody going to the Cambodia border. You will get your 90 days so don't worry about that.

Sure,

I'll tell you tomorrow when I get back. I think it will take a few weeks for the officials at the cambodian borders to apply the new visa regulations.

I hope everything will be fine, because I know that there are a lot of checkpoints between Trat and Hadlek border :o

What a bright idea ubonjoe!

I called two (border run) companies today; and both of them denied the fact about 15 days new rule; by saying: "30 days as usual, another thaivisa rumor"...

From Jack Golf's website:

December 4:

'Don't worry anything, Now at poipet border, traveller still can get 30 days , no have any changes yet. If they have any change, we gonna let our customers know later. So we always up date news here or you can call our office.

New Information but it's not effected at border yet.

In order to limit the amount of foreigners using "back-to-back" border runs, Thai Immigration has issued a new regulation regarding the 30 days tourist exemption.

Effective immediately, travellers without visa will get only 15 days of stay if they are arriving via a land border checkpoint from a neighboring country.

Passengers arriving via an international airport will obtain a 30 days stay, and for them there is no change.

Announced by Immigration Bureau'

Confusing ... Guess a call to them will give you a final answer.

Technically, the information given by the consulate is correct.

1. Leave the country before the 90 days are over, OR

2. Go to an immigration and apply for an extension of stay if you qualify for such extension.
