December 8, 200817 yr Please take the time to enjoy this highly amusing thread over in the Chiang Mai area. I participated earlier but now I'm just enjoying it; whilst enjoying it I thought of Bedlam . . . . JxP
December 8, 200817 yr I've had to close three reply windows so far as everything I came up with seemed too insulting over something that basically is a pretty petty issue. It is his attitude toward his patrons that I find the most irritating. The niggardly "host" is fairly artful at ducking the most well landed blows and misdirecting the thread on to new themes.

No offence intended but I think you're missing his humour - I've been chuckling my way through the thread. JxP
December 8, 200817 yr Author I've been following it avidly. Is it tickling your funny bone or making you see red? I'm fascinated by the opposing ways that people seem to be taking it . . . note to self: get a life! JxP

That said, I wont be patronizing his establishment. I rarely look at prices. I usually just order what I want, and if the food/service is adequate I tip generously. If I feel I'm being "nickel and dimed", I don't go back. This thread saved me the trouble of there ever being a first visit.
December 8, 200817 yr Author Fair enough - I hadn't processed it that far, I've just been enjoying the funny side of the thread. JxP
December 8, 200817 yr Author It's getting a ridiculous number of views and replies considering the original subject matter - I think it's even improving with age but it might be a British humour thing . . . JxP
December 9, 200817 yr Well, from posting it on this forum, im sure it got more views that it normally would. However, I agree it must be a British sense of humor because I don't get it. There are not many other basic needs than water and to deny anyone that could actually stomach Thai tap water, is just plain wrong. I probally should have posted this on the thread in question but...why bother?
December 9, 200817 yr I've been following it avidly. Is it tickling your funny bone or making you see red? I'm fascinated by the opposing ways that people seem to be taking it . . . note to self: get a life! JxP It's just so petty, (the debate), the guy should serve a glass of water to menu browsing customers who haven't ordered a drink but it's his prerogative not to. I know the place well, it's got the infrastructure of a Pattaya beer bar; people, mainly tourists go there to drink alcoholic beverages and watch sports on TV. I'm not sure about the food, I've never eaten there, but if I had any advice for the owner it's that a meal should come with a glass of water. Regardless of the threats of patronage withdrawal by the outraged Chiang Mai expat community this can only be good for business. I was originally taken to the place by Austhaied, which speaks volumes in itself.
December 9, 200817 yr I'm presuming his suppliers don't give him bottled water for free, so he has every right to add cost, plus profit and charge for it. Don't see the issue.
December 9, 200817 yr Nomadic arabs would kill for a drop.........................Perhaps Kevin is a nomadic arab?

I agree with that but reading this " The waiter showed him the drinks menu and offered Singha drinking water or Mineral water . He said he wanted neither but a free glass of water. " quote. He did not ask for bottled water.

December 9, 200817 yr Author Indeed it is, apologies for giving it more than it's fair share of limelight and please don't let's start a twin here! I do like the guy's humour though. JxP
