Does anyone know of any shops in Bangkok who do "krup ron"....hot laminates/seal for photo paper? ...I might be incorrect w/ the spelling....does anyone also know what is the term in English?

I konw of IQ Labs...but their prices are sky high!!

This is used as a protective layer over photo prints to protect it against fingerprints, UV, and color fading. It also adds a really nice grain over the paper.

There are many photo & framing shops that do "krup yen"...cold laminates, but this protects the colors of the print only about 5-10 years (so i've been told) instead of 10-20 years for KrupRon.

most photo labs/xerox shops have laminating machines...mostly for the small ID card sizes...but also A4 size..

I do not see how the method of lamination has anything to do with colour life...... that depends on the quality of the inks/dyes used in the printing process and how strong the sunlight the print is to be exposed to. I have laminated prints in my wife's photo studio and left them in the sun and rain for over a year with no loss of colour...but they were printed on anEpaon printer using their 'Durabrite' inks which are claimed to have up to seventy years life.

Hi fabianfred,

Actually, i think what yo're referring to is just the general laminating for paper. Yes, it does work but is not really designed for photo archiving. Plus it leaves a very reflective surface....& prob won't keep the color of hte print for too much longer than a couple years.

Krup Ron actually leaves a new 'grainy' layer over the photo paper....& is a process designed specifically for photo archiving.
