Non Imm O Extension Options

Featured Replies

Would welcome some advice on the options available to extend my Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa. My current (Pensioner Visiting Long Term) visa expires in October 2009 and allows me multiple 90 day entries.

I am over 50 yo, living with my Thai wife (marriage not registered) and we have a baby due in May. I still work outside Thailand and usually this takes me in/out of Thailand within the 90day period

I am returning to Thailand at the end of January and intend to remain there until after baby arrives, in total about 120days. What are my best options:

Border run for 90 day extension

Extend/change my visa to retirement with 800k in Thai bank?? If I go this route will I need to report every 90days??

In the long term would my best option be to obtain a visa based upon our child as a Thai dependant

Thanks

1. If you do a border run just before your Non O Visa expires you will get another 90 days. Seeing as you have only just payed for this ,why not use it. It is up to you.

2. The retirement extension will get you 12 months with no need for border runs. The 90 day reports only affect you if you stay for longer than 90 days. If you are out of the country the 90 days start again when you return. You would need to get a Multi Re Entry Permit 3,800 Baht. The extension is 1,900 Baht.

3. It would help if you were Married . You could then get the extension based on Marriage or having a Thai Child. Some members have reported having problems because they were not married to the Childs Mother. While others have had no problems.

The advantage of getting an extension to support a child is the inome or money bank requirements are lower. Working like you do after you get an extension you would then get a multiple re-entry permit which would allow you to come and go as many times as want for the length of your permit to stay.

For inome you need a letter from your emabassy as proof. For money in bank it needs to be in the bank for 60 days for retirement (first time only 3 months for renewal). No time requirement for the child option.

See 2.18 for the child and 2.22 for retirement extension requirements of the the police order.

The 90 day reports are required if you are in the country for more than 90 days at one time. When you leave and return the 90 days starts the day you return.

If you don't get the one year extesnsion you can make a border run. After the baby is born you could get a 60 day extension to visit your child see 2.24 of the police order for this extension.
