The Boys In Brown Stand Firm

Featured Replies

Took the dog for his walk tonight, little parties starting up all over the village causing me to politely decline drinks at every second or third house.

When I got to the main road I noticed an unusual figure standing in the middle of the road next to a flashing red light.

He/it was a police uniform, complete with boots and gloves and topped with a capped paper mache head; all stuffed with news paper and obviously a few skeletal sticks to keep him upright. He even had a pair of sunnys on and stood proudly with one hand upraised.

He had obviously been allotted the vital duty of keeping traffic at it's correct speed while the human police made sure that the parties were conducted with suitable decorum.

:o:D :D :D

JEEZ I LOVE THAILAND!

Happy New Year everyone.

That guy has a relative at the Phra Khanong intersection of Sukhumvit 71.

His cousin is regular fixture out the front of the Oh Bor Tor in Pong every festival and holiday.

Yes sunnies and raised hand are part of the get-up, although this one is on wheels. :o

I've seen them at permanent checkpoints throughout the north, but what tickled me about this one is that the budget obviously never stretched to a professionally made one so they knocked him up themselves.

It immediately put me in mind of the "Guy Fawkes" we used to make for fireworks night when we we kids.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,

The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,

I can think of no reason

Why the Gunpowder Treason

Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent

To blow up the King and Parli'ment.

Three-score barrels of powder below

To prove old England's overthrow;

By God's providence he was catch'd

With a dark lantern and burning match.

Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.

Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

While searching for this literary gem I came across this masterpiece of Christian love and brotherhood.

A penny loaf to feed the Pope

A farthing o' cheese to choke him.

A pint of beer to rinse it down.

A fagot of sticks to burn him.

Burn him in a tub of tar.

Burn him like a blazing star.

Burn his body from his head.

Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead.

Hip hip hoorah!

Hip hip hoorah hoorah!

Wow, we don't get fake ones. Although, years ago, when Koh P had almost no traffic, we had a crazy policeman that had been sent down from Bkk to recuperate from the stress. Used to direct the non-existent traffic in town. :D

Gave a friend of mine a parking ticket, when she went to the police station to pay, they tore it up, apologized to her and sent her on her way.

I don't know what ever happened to that guy. Hope he got better :o
