I also take exception to the premises of this topic you started. There is something deeply disturbing about how you seem to not even be able to conceive of people disagreeing with the Israeli propaganda line while not at the same time being any of the invectives or insults you tried to assign at the outset.

Actually, I can conceive of people who are not Nazis who are against Israel - I have met many - but when I question them about the conflict, their answers are so superficial, stereotypical and full of fallacies that I realize that they really have little idea of what they are talking about. They have been swayed by what their friends tell them, or by the media, who seem to support whoever is fashionable at a particular time (remember when they all LOVED Israel or more recently, John McCain)?

Many folks think that they have a pretty good idea of what is going on over there because they have been to college, but they have never even read a good history about the situation.

I understand that they could really care less about Palestinians or Israelis or Jews, that they just believe whatever is easiest to believe. It just doesn't mean that much to them until they get interviewed on TV. :o

I'm surprised no one has turned around the basic premise of the OP and suggested that many non-Israelis support Israel for sectarian reasons, ie, because they are Jewish. It has been suggested that a multitude of Jewish Americans and Jewish Britons, for example, rubber-stamp everything Israel not necessarily because they have personally analysed Israeli foreign policy in any depth but because they are Jewish and feel they have to.

The trouble with that kind of thinking is that it's too broad a generalization. Without interviewing each and every Jewish American etc you don't know which ones support Israel simply because they are Jewish or because they know the issues well and believe what Israel does is right. Of course no country has foreign policies that are 100% correct and ethical 100% of the time, so anyone that supports the Israeli government 100% of the time is probably extremely biased. And vice versa for those in opposition 100% of the time.

Likewise there is no way to definitively state that most non-Jews who oppose Israeli foreign policy oppose it because they 'hate Jews' rather than because they have examined the issues and come to their own conclusions.

I find both viewpoints – that most Jews who support Israel do so because they're Jewish or that most non-Jews who oppose Israeli action are anti-Semitic—equally untenable without further evidence to support the generalization. I don't doubt that there are cases of both biases. But let's see something besides anecdotal evidence. Simply stating that 'everyone I've talked to' blah blah blah means nothing. I could point out that most of my Jewish American friends are just as clueless about what's going on in the Middle East as my non-Jewish American friends. In fact Americans in general seem to be pretty clueless about what goes on outside the USA but there I go making ridiculous generalisations :o

It would be more fruitful, in my opinion, to discuss the actual policy issues than to make unprovable ad hominem generalizations.

In fact Americans in general seem to be pretty clueless about what goes on outside the USA

You may find that a great many are also clueless about what actually goes on inside the States as well.

Mr. sabaijai must not know a lot of Jews if he thinks that they support Israel because they "think that they have to". Jews are not known for agreeing with anyone - including each other - and even many Israelis do not support the policies of their government. However, Israel is a democracy - the only one in that part of the world - so hopefully, the will of the people is done in the end.

Of course many supporters of Israel are Jewish. Many of them know only too well what has happened to them over thousands of years which culminated in the holocaust and they wish to have a place of their own where they do not have to continue to rely on the "kindness of strangers" and can be safe. They support Israel because they think that it is simply doing what it has to do to prevent being destroyed by all of those that hate them.

The other side of the coin is that many of Israel's detractors have no great love for the Palestinians or their fight, but use them as pawns to get rid of the Jewish state. Getting rid of the Jews is what is important to them, but some of them have learned that honesty is not the best policy. They make up a lot of lies that appeal to left-wingers and use that rhetoric to hide behind. Unfortunately, a large number of "useful idiots" have picked up on the rhetoric and spread it with the winds.

<H1>United Nations Bankrolled Latest Anti-israel Propaganda

By JACOB GERSHMAN, Staff Reporter of the Sun | August 17, 2005

  • The United Nations bankrolled the production of thousands of banners, bumper stickers, mugs, and T-shirts bearing the slogan "Today Gaza and Tomorrow the West Bank and Jerusalem," which have been widely distributed to Palestinian Arabs in the Gaza Strip, according to a U.N. official.

The U.N. support of the Palestinian Authority's propaganda operation in the midst of the Israeli evacuation of Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip has provoked outrage from Israeli and Jewish leaders, who are blaming Turtle Bay for propagating an inflammatory message that they say encourages Palestinian Arab violence.

"The intifada worked. That's contextually what this message is saying," the director of U.N. affairs for the Washington-based Jewish organization B'nai Brith, Amy Goldstein, said.

The Arabic slogan, which refers to disputed territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, has become ubiquitous in Gaza, where Israeli soldiers this week are evacuating 21 settlements. It's served as the central message of a Palestinian Arab effort to spin the withdrawal as a victory.

A special representative of the United Nations Development Program in the Gaza Strip, Timothy Rothermel, told Fox News that his office provided financial support for the production of materials that make up the Palestinian Authority's propaganda campaign, timed to coincide with the Gaza pullout. The Palestinian Authority's withdrawal committee developed and produced the posters and other items using U.N. money, Mr. Rothermel said.

In addition to the slogan "Today Gaza and Tomorrow the West Bank and Jerusalem," many of the materials displayed the logo of the United Nations Development Program, which operates in 166 countries and spends about half a billion dollars a year.

Asked by a Fox News correspondent about one of the banners bearing the words implying an impending Palestinian Arab takeover of the disputed areas, Mr. Rothermel, said, "That particular poster was prepared by the disengagement office with financial support from the United Nations Development Program."

UNDP officials at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, however, denied that money from the program went directly to the propaganda campaign.

A UNDP spokesman, William Orme, said his office gave money to the Palestinian Withdrawal Committee to "help the Palestinian Authority communicate to the populace about the withdrawal and its economic and social impact."

The money was funneled to the committee through a subagency called Program of Assistance to the Palestinian People. U.N. officials were not told about the propaganda campaign or about the slogan, he said.

The director of international affairs for the American Jewish Congress and a Sun op-ed columnist, David Twersky, criticized the UNDP for failing to better track their funds.

"How come they don't know what's happening to their money?" he said. "Where's the audit? Where's the transparency? How could responsible U.N. officials living off of tax dollars have the chutzpah to say I don't know what they're spending their money on?"

New York-based U.N. officials learned of the slogan, Mr. Twesky said, when they received a letter of complaint on Monday from the American Jewish Congress. The letter, signed by the chairman of the American Jewish Congress, Jack Rose, said the United Nations "has no business paying the costs of this propaganda." The letter was addressed to the development program's new administrator, Kemal Dervis.

Mr. Orme, who said his office was investigating the details of the letter, refused to say whether the United Nations stands behind the slogan printed on the propaganda materials.

He said: "We are emphatically neutral ...We do not lend ourselves to political messaging in favor of any particular faction or ideology."

Mr. Rothermel, in the Fox News interview, argued that the slogan, which predicts an Israeli disengagement from the West Bank and, presumably, East Jerusalem, is a message that is "consistent with the relevant U.N. resolutions and Security Council resolutions about the status of Palestine."

A former Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Dore Gold, said the funding of the propaganda campaign is "simply outrageous."

"The West Bank is disputed territory under U.N. Security Council Resolution 242. The U.N. has no business getting involved in sloganeering to call on the Palestinians to also take tomorrow the West Bank and East Jerusalem," Mr. Gold told Fox News.

The Palestinian Authority's top leaders have echoed the slogan in recent public comments. "The process of national struggle will continue until we reach Jerusalem and celebrate there and in the West Bank," its prime minister, Ahmed Qurei, said. according to a report in the Jerusalem Post.

Jimmy Carter, erstwhile President of the U.S., and two professors of political science, Walt and Mearsheimer, have now honored the memory of Joseph Gőbbels, Hitler’s propaganda chief, by continuing the ancient canards against Jews which have poisoned Europe for 1,900 years and which these three seek to promote in this country. Copying their theses from such bigotry as The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and Nazi publications, Carter, Mearsheimer and Walt make these claims:

1. There is a Jewish conspiracy to rule the U.S. and the world.

2. That American Jews are disloyal to this country because we seek the survival of Israel. Irish Americans who constantly praise the “old sod” are of course not disloyal. Nor are professors of German ancestry. Only Jews. Jewish service men and women who have died for this country are unknown to Carter, Walt and Mearsheimer.

3. That there is “Jewish blood” which is different from other people’s blood (a real Nazi fantasy), so that Israel rests on “blood kinship”. Yet Arabs vote in Israel but no Jew ever voted in an Arab land (of course, there is no voting in any Arab dictatorship).

4. That Jews conspired to drive the U.S. into the Iraq war. In fact, the majority of American Jews were and are against the Iraq war.

5. That Jews control the media so that no one critical of Israel can publish anything. This in face of the fact that Walt and Mearsheimer just published their anti-Jewish tract and Carter did the same a year ago.

6. Carter even sank so low as to say in a speech at Geneva, Switzerland on November 3, 2003, that if he had been re-elected to a second term he would have instituted “the final solution” to the Jewish problem. The “final solution” was the murder of 6 million Jews in the European gas ovens.

One of the anti-Jewish methods used by the National Socialists on assuming power in Germany in January of 1933 was the invention of a new vocabulary designed to gain support for their policies among the German people. This was easily attained. Nevertheless, the Nazi propagandists called deportations to gas ovens “resettlement in the East”; Jews were called “non-aryans” and “vermin”; a Jew who had served for years in the First World War for “the fatherland” was called a traitor and coward while a goy who never served became a patriot, etc.

Likewise, the current gang of haters has invented a vocabulary designed to promote their agenda. Now a Jew born in Judea is a settler; an Arab born in Detroit is a Palestinian (There are no Palestinians - there are Arabs who moved into Israel to take advantage of Jewish blood, Jewish investments and Jewish ability. These are all immigrants from neighboring Arab countries who have no right to be there).

Israel’s security fence, which prevents the terrorists from killing Jews, is called an “apartheid” wall and Judea and Samaria are called “the west bank” of the Jordan river. The pretense is that somehow “the west bank” is Arab territory when in fact the so-called country of Jordan was separated from Israel by the British in 1920 and given to the Arabs without consent of any Jews. The truth is that the haters want Israel to evacuate the west part of Tel Aviv as well so that they can destroy all of Israel.

Keep this in mind. The anti-Israel haters hate all Jews. Their attack is a repetition of the ancient anti-Jewish demagoguery that finally led to the Holocaust.

It is also interesting that the haters are all Democrats. I did not say that all Democrats are hate mongers. I only observe that Jimmy Carter and former representative Cynthia McKinney and former senator Hollings and Al Sharpton and a huge gang of anti-Jewish professors in our universities who call themselves “liberals” are all Democrats.

It is a peculiar Jewish form of behavior to be the first to denounce bigotry against others but never to stand up for ourselves. So we keep voting for the party of Franklin Roosevelt, the most pronounced Jew baiter of his day, who said at Casablanca in 1943 that he could understand why the Germans persecuted the Jews as there were then too many Jewish doctors and lawyers in Germany; the party of Jimmy Carter, whose fulminations against Jews resemble Nazi propaganda; for the party of Al Sharpton, who screamed in front of a Jewish owned store “burn down the Jew store”; for the party of Cynthia Mc Kinney, who introduced anti-Israel legislation into the House at every session; for the party of Ernest Hollings, who claims that Jews are responsible for the Iraq war and that the U.S. should not support Israel; and the party of the Rev. Jackson, who calls New York City “hymietown”.

There is no need to apologize for being Jewish. The haters are as intent to murder the apologetic Jews as they are to murder those who have some dignity. Decent people find nothing wrong with Jews standing up for themselves. On the contrary. Our friends find it obnoxious to see so many Jews crawling to the haters by voting for them.

Yes, indeed, we are “The Chosen People”. We have done more for mankind that any other community at any time anywhere. So shout it from the rooftops. I am a Jew. I am proud of it and let the haters go to hel_l.

Shalom u’vracha.

Mr. sabaijai must not know a lot of Jews if he thinks that they support Israel because they "think that they have to".

I said quite the opposite, pointing out that that very idea was an untenable generalisation that other people - not me - have put forth.

That doesn't mean that there aren't American Jews who support everything Israel does for ill-thought-out, sectarian-inspired reasons. Just as their are non-Jews who oppose everything Israel does for equally sectarian reasons. And reasonable folk of all religious backgrounds who think for themselves.

As for Jews being non-conformist, I also believe that is too broad a generalisation. I know as many conformist Jews as conformist Gentiles. Some are even conservative Republicans :D and conform to the notion they are the 'chosen people,' a notion ironically close to Nazi belief in a 'master race.' :o

Some are even conservative Republicans :D and conform to the notion they are the 'chosen people,' a notion ironically close to Nazi belief in a 'master race.' :o

Actually, Christians are normally the ones that call Jews "the chosen people". The way the Jews tell the story, is that at one point, God gave the whole human race the chance to conform with his laws and be his people and the Jews were the only ones that were willing to do so. They do not think of themselves as being chosen by God, but rather as have been lucky enough to have chosen him.

Almost no Jew interprets the "chosen people" in the way that you have, but a lot of anti-Semites do. I know that you are not one, but, like all of us, you have been exposed to anti-Jewish propoganda all of your life - often without realizing it.

Here is one Jewish interpretation that is fairly typical:

"Few beliefs have been subject to as much misunderstanding as the "Chosen People" doctrine. The Torah and the Prophets clearly stated that this does not imply any innate Jewish superiority. In the words of Amos (3:2) "You alone have I singled out of all the families of the earth - that is why I will call you to account for your iniquities". The Torah tells us that we are to be "a kingdom of priests and a holy nation" with obligations and duties which flowed from our willingness to accept this status. Far from being a license for special privilege, it entailed additional responsibilities not only toward God but to our fellow human beings. As expressed in the blessings at the reading of the Torah, our people have always felt it to be a privilege to be selected for such a purpose. For the modern traditional Jew, the doctrine of the election and the covenant of Israel offers a purpose for Jewish existence which transcends its own self interests. It suggests that because of our special history and unique heritage we are in a position to demonstrate that a people that takes seriously the idea of being covenanted with God can not only thrive in the face of oppression, but can be a source of blessing to its children and its neighbors. It obligates us to build a just and compassionate society throughout the world and especially in the land of Israel where we may teach by example what it means to be a "covenant people, a light unto the nations."

Jimmy Carter's "Final Solution"

Jimmy-Carter--8090.jpgYou got to give Jimmy Carter some credit, he may have been the worst president in American History but almost 30 years after since he left the Presidency he is still diligently working to screw up the world. He can no longer screw-up Zimbabwe or Iran, those deeds have been done. So the Village Idiot of ex-Presidents has been doing his best to go after Israel. After all, in his warped mind it is the American Jewish Community in combination with Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin that is responsible for losing his bid for reelection.

When last we saw Carter he was fresh off his anti-Semitic Book where he called Israel an apartheid state and he blamed American Jews for controlling foreign policy. The ex-President went to Gaza to show his new Tatoo to Hamas. He came out of Gaza with the message that Hamas wanted to make peace. Well that was until Hamas said, Jimmy that's not what we said. Sometimes you feel bad for Jimmy because even the terrorist organization is using him as a Dhimmi tool.

made_at_www.txt2pic.com.jpg

After his falsehoods in his last book, Peace Not Apartheid caused him to loose many associates including leaders in his famous "Carter Center," Dhimmi Carter has decided to put pen to paper once again with a new book, which he says lays out his plan for peace in the Middle East. The word is he affectionately calls it his Final Solution. If you listen to the initial interviews on his book tour that would be the perfect title for the book:

CAMERA---New Book, New Falsehoods

by Alex Safian, PhD, Tamar Sternthal

Jimmy Carter's new book about the Middle East, We Can Have Peace in the Holy Land: A Plan That Will Work, is now available, and so the former president has again hit the media circuit for promotional interviews, introducing new falsehoods. An interview on NBC's Today Show with Meredith Vieira yesterday, for instance, typifies Carter's self-aggrandizing, his position that Hamas is not a terrorist group, and his carelessness when it comes to the facts. Thus, when Vieira notes that "you've been criticized for [meeting with Hamas], sir, because Hamas is considered a terrorist group," Carter gives a little grin and responds:

By some they are, and they've done some bad things, but for instance a year before we had the cease-fire that I helped to orchestrate last June the 19th, there was one Israeli killed by rockets. And on an average, 49 Palestinians were killed every month during that previous year. And as soon as the cease-fire went into effect, Hamas obeyed it completely. There was no serious rocket fire during the next four or five months. Whereas, Israel did not restore providing provisions for the -- for the Palestinians and Gaza.

In actuality, four Israelis were killed in rocket fire in the year prior to the cease-fire that began on June 19, 2008. They were:

May 9, 2008 - Jimmy Kadoshim, 48, of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, was killed by mortar fire from the Gaza Strip while tending his garden.

May 12, 2008 - Shuli Katz, 70, of Kibbutz Gevaram, was killed while visiting relatives at Moshav Yesha, some 15 kms (9 miles) from the Gaza Strip.

June 5, 2008 - Amnon Rosenberg, 51, of Kibbutz Nirim was killed and four other employees were wounded when a mortar bomb fired by Palestinian terrorists from the Gaza Strip exploded outside the Nirlat paint factory in Kibbutz Nir-Oz. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

Feb 27, 2008 - Roni Yihye, 47, of Moshav Bitcha in southern Israel, a student at Sapir College, was killed Wednesday afternoon when a Kassam rocket exploded in a parking lot near the Sderot campus. He died shortly after sustaining massive wounds to his chest. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

Furthermore, Carter contradicts himself, on the one hand stating definitively that Hamas obeyed the cease-fire "completely," and in the next sentence stating there "was no serious rocket fire." In the first five months of the cease-fire, until Nov. 4, Palestinians fired 18 mortars at Israel, beginning on the night of June 23, and 20 rockets, starting on June 24, when three rockets hit Sderot. In Carter's world, in which Hamas is not a terror group, these rocket attacks are not "serious," and not at all a violation of the cease-fire.

Other ostensibly non-"serious" acts of Palestinian aggression against Israel during the cease-fire -- non-violations, in Carter's mind -- are the July 6 light arms fire from Gaza on farmers working in the fields of Nahal Oz, an Aug. 15 night-time cross-border Palestinian shooting attack at Israeli soldiers near the Karni crossing, and the planting of an explosive device near the security fence in the area of Sufa crossing. On Oct. 31, as an IDF patrol approached the device which they had spotted, Palestinians fired two anti-tank missiles.

There were two Palestinian attempts to infiltrate from Gaza into Israel apparently to abduct Israelis. Both were major -- "by some" (to borrow Carter's words) serious -- violations of the ceasefire.

• The first came to light on Sept. 28, when Israeli personnel arrested Jamal Atallah Sabah Abu Duabe. The 21-year-old Rafah resident had used a tunnel to enter Egypt and from there planned to slip across the border into Israel. Investigation revealed that Abu Duabe was a member of Hamas's Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, and that he planned to lure Israeli soldiers near the border by pretending to be a drug smuggler, capture them, and then sedate them with sleeping pills in order to abduct them directly into Gaza through a preexisting tunnel. For more details click here and here.

• The second abduction plan was aborted on the night of Nov 4, thanks to a warning from Israeli Intelligence. Hamas had dug another tunnel into Israel and was apparently about to execute an abduction plan when IDF soldiers penetrated about 250 meters into Gaza to the entrance of the tunnel, hidden under a house. Inside the house were a number of armed Hamas members, who opened fire. The Israelis fired back and the house exploded – in total 6 or 7 Hamas operatives were killed and several were wounded. Among those killed were Mazen Sa'adeh, a Hamas brigade commander, and Mazen Nazimi Abbas, a commander in the Hamas special forces unit. For more details click here.

In Carter's calculation, Hamas was supposedly "completely" abiding by the cease-fire (mortars, rockets, shootings, attempted abductions and anti-tank missiles aside), "Whereas Israel did not restore providing provisions for the -- for the Palestinians and Gaza." This charge is also false – Israel did open the crossings and allowed truckload after truckload of supplies to enter Gaza. Closures until November were short, and in direct response to Palestinian violations, some of which were detailed above.

As reported by the Intelligence and Terrorism Information center:

On June 22, after four days of calm, Israel reopened the Karni and Sufa crossings to enable regular deliveries of consumer goods and fuel to the Gaza Strip. They were closed shortly thereafter, following the first violation of the arrangement, when rockets were fired at Sderot on June 24. However, when calm was restored, the crossings remained open for long periods of time. On August 17 the Kerem Shalom crossing was also opened for the delivery of goods, to a certain degree replacing the Sufa crossing, after repairs had been completed (the Kerem Shalom crossing was closed on April 19 when the IDF prevented a combined mass casualty attack in the region, as a result of which the crossing was almost completely demolished).

Before November 4, large quantities of food, fuel, construction material and other necessities for renewing the Gaza Strip's economic activity were delivered through the Karni and Sufa crossings. A daily average of 80-90 trucks passed through the crossings, similar to the situation before they were closed following the April 19 attack on the Kerem Shalom crossing. Changes were made in the types of good which could be delivered, permitting the entry of iron, cement and other vital raw materials into the Gaza Strip.

... Israel, before November 4, refrained from initiating action in the Gaza Strip but responded to rocket and mortar shell attacks by closing the crossings for short periods of time (hours to days). After November 4 the crossings were closed for long periods in response to the continued attacks against Israel. (Rearranged from p 11- 12)

Day to day details of the supplies delivered to Gaza and the numbers of trucks involved have been published by the Israeli Foreign Ministry and are available here. The figures confirm that the passages were indeed open and busy.

No plan for peace in the holy land will work so long as it is based on dismissiveness of Hamas terror and historical revisionism.

If the US had not led the liberation of Kuwait, there is little doubt that 9-11 would not have happened, and the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan would not be underway. THere would have bene no train bombings in Spain and no bombings in London.

This is, perhaps, one of the more ridiculous statements I have ever read. Let me refresh your memory a little.

1. The US Embassy in Tehran taken on 4 November 1979. The hostages were held for 444 days.

2. April 18, 1983, the US Embassy in Beirut is bombed killing 63 people.

3. October 23, 1983, the US Marine barracks are truck bombed killing 241 people.

4. December 12, 1983, the US Embassy and other US and French targets are bombed, killing 6 people.

5. March 24, 1984, CIA Station Chief kidnapped and murdered in Beirut.

6. September 20, 1984, the US Embassy Annex bombed in Beirut, killing24 people.

7. December 3, 1984, Kuwait Airways flight 221 hijacked to Tehran, 2 Americans murdered.

8. June 14, 1985, TWA Flight 847 hijacked out of Athens, one US citizen murdered.

9. October 1985, hijacking of the cruise ship Achille Lauro, one US citizen murdered.

10. December 17, 1985, bombing of the Rome and Vienna airports resulting in 20 deaths.

11. December 21, 1988, bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, milling all 259 people on board.

All of these incidents pre-dated the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Interestingly, it all seemed to begin during the Carter presidency. Carter inspired the Iranian revolution and then failed to back the Shah when he needed it, thus causing the takeover of the Iranian government by the Ayatollah. The Embassy was taken hostage during his presidency and the only thing he tried to do was an aborted, ill planned rescue attempt that met it's doom in the deserts of Iran.

Carter was a foolish, naive, perhaps innocent, peanut farmer from Georgia that should have never been elected. His foreign policy was one of appeasement and "peaceful diplomacy" that did not and will not work in the real world. Sometimes, diplomacy is best carried out from the flight deck of an aircraft carrier and not from the pews of a Baptist church in Georgia.

To claim 9/11 and the subsequent bombings in Europe were a direct result of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the First Gulf War is being somewhat reckless with history and is flawed in it's reasoning.

First of all, when you quote text verbatim, you should provide a link of your source to remain intellectually honest and not to appear as if you are trying to pass off the words of another as your own.

Secondly, your misquote is only the first thing, but there are so many intellectually dishonest statements and distortions in the article itself, that it doesn't even merit a serious, factual discussion - nor does this thread - readily apparent by the quote "The anti-Israel haters hate all Jews. Their attack is a repetition of the ancient anti-Jewish demagoguery that finally led to the Holocaust", which in no small order is also a complete contradiction of itself and intellectually honest people everywhere, including Jews.

You got to give Jimmy Carter some credit, he may have been the worst president in American History but almost 30 years after since he left the Presidency he is still diligently working to screw up the world. He can no longer screw-up Zimbabwe or Iran, those deeds have been done. So the Village Idiot of ex-Presidents has been doing his best to go after Israel.

Jimmy Carter may not have been the best US president, but at least he has respected the office he once held and has tried to do what he thinks is good, whether you agree with his policies or not. What did Reagan do after leaving office? Go to Japan for a multi-million dollar speaking engagement. What did Ford do? Quickly escounce himself on the boards of several corporations.

I don't always agree with Carter, but I have to respect his post-presidency.

Sorry, but you need to learn your history.  Yes, there were attacks on US and US interests before 9/11. And there would probably have been more without the US freeing of Kuwait.  But there were two main incidents which led to 9/11. And this is not conjecture, but rather coming right from the horse's mouth, Osama bin Laden.

One was Clinton's preciptous withdrawal from Somalia after the "Black Hawk Down" incident. bin Laden had remarked on record many times, on record, that that proved the Americans had no mettle, no fortitude.  Give them a black eye, and they will withdraw.

But the main cause was the military movement into Kuwait, or more specifically, the presence of US military in Saudi Arabia that resulted from that war. This military presence was deemed unacceptable by bin Laden, and he vowed to eject the Americans as well as kick out the ruling house of Saud for allowing such a "desecration."

The train bombings in Spain were a direct attempt to get Spanish troops out of Iraq (an attempt which succeeded.)  If there were no Spanish troops in Iraq, there would have been no bombing.

And off-hand, I believe that the London bombings had the same purpose, but I could be mistaken on that one.

So before you assume my statements are ridiculous, you should review what is known about the situation.  This is in the public domain, nothing classifed about it.

I personally fought in Iraq, and I still believe that was a mistake. But I was in suport roles for Kuwait and Afghanistan, and I think those missions were justified. But whatever I think, that does not mean that cause and effect should be thrown out the door. Facts are facts.

I sometimes post articles that I find amusing and this was one of them. I also found a lot of the authors opinions to be food for thought, even if I might not agree with him. I DO think that Mr. Carter is wrong about Israel and wrong about the Palestinians and should keep his nose out of it, but I am not sure if he has some sort of vendetta against Israel or is just too lacking in common sense to see that dealing with terrorist organizations without authorization rarely helps anyone but them. :o

I do not know if not freeing Kuwait would have specifically prevented 9/11, but it was still the right thing to do, and there would have been more terrorist incidents if we had appeased Saddam Hussein, or not.

I'm not sure what the point is of second guessing a needed and honorable mission when we had little choice to do otherwise.

Oh, I agree that we should have freed Kuwait, and I tried to go myself (my former (by 9 months) rifle company led the American forces into Kuwait city, but my new job was designated vital and I could not leave it.)

But part of knowing your enemy, and Osama is our enemy, is understanding his motivations.  And the American presence in Saudi Arabia in support of the Kuwait war and those left there after it were the prime reason for the 9/11 attacks.

I'm not saying that you are wrong, but I have to say that I do not trust Osama to be honest about his real motivations. Maybe he is telling the truth. Maybe he finds it useful to lie about it. :o

Save your kindness for someone who needs it. I never made the point that there was no anti-semitism in the world. Of course anti-semites will attack Israel, but every critic of Israel is not an anti-semite or "Jew Hater" as the title of this thread implies, and your quoted sources outright state. To say otherwise is to be as intolerant and extremist as the people they are railing against.

  • Author

Of course, "every" critic of Israel is not an anti-Semite. I don't think there is any subject at all that "everyone" agrees on - even the lunatic fringe. However, an enormous number of Muslims are schooled to hate Jews (as opposed to Israelis) and there are huge numbers of anti-Semites in Europe and there have been for centuries. They oppose Israel because the people are Jewish. They could care less about the Palestinians. There are also a lot of people who could really care less about either camp, but cast their UN vote for Arab oil money.

What concerns me even more than these types are the left-wing trendies that seem to support the Palestinians more because out of a sense of fashion than any beliefs they have in common. I guess that they think it is Israel's fault that the Palestinians treat women so unfairly and torture and abuse their own people when they are not using them as human shields to gain PR points with the media. According to these lemmings, everything seems to be either Israel or America's fault everywhere in the world - including Tiananmen Square. :o

I don't think that they "intend" to hate Jews, but the reasons they give for hating Israelis are the same stereotypes that have been used by anti-Semites for 100s of years and they do not even seem to realize the implications of that despite all they have supposedly been taught at University.

Every critic of Israel is not an anti-Semite, but a huge number are, and many others are, perhaps unwittingly, playing their game for them. :D

UG I must admit I don't have the background to evaluate whether or not you are biased on this issue and just giving us one side, but I'm impressed with your knowledge of Israeli politics, and have learned a lot reading your posts. In fact I know more about the history of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar than I do about Israel and the Middle East, or even the country where I was born. :o

Why Does So Much Utter Madness

Spring Forth From "Progressive Jews?

Whether they be individuals or organized groups, the sheer number of Jews working against Jewish and Israeli interests is staggering. It is bad enough when an Arab, Palestinian, Muslim, Neo-Nazi skinhead or other non-Jew attacks Israel or Jews in general. We would expect nothing less from them. But when a Jew does this, his mere Jewishness lends exceptional credibility to the charges. Besides, why would Jews hate themselves when others are more than willing to do it for them!

These whacko Leftist Jews are so drunk on their ability to empathize and "feel the pain" of their enemies that they simply can no longer call them enemies! Talk about the

Stockholm Syndrome! Talk about excessive and misplaced mercy! Talk about disgusting Jews! And why do we Jews have so many self-haters springing forth among us? This can only be explained by someone with at least a few dozen degrees in abnormal psychiatry. Even an insane asylum would refuse to admit these sick, hopeless Jews!

What would make an educated Jew grow into a frustrated, embittered and rebellious writer, intellectual, professor AND spokesman for the so-called "oppressed?" Are their miserable, phony lives so filled with boredom and irrelevance? Have some taken one too many schoolyard beatings and found it far easier to simply side with their anti-Semitic bullies? Have they no pride in themselves as a unique and special people? Are they not overwhelmed with the magnificence of their long Jewish history? Do they not look back at the enormous sacrifices and dedication of their ancestors? Have they ever firmed up their backbone to stand tall as a proud Jew? Have they EVER exerted one-hundredth the amount of effort to fight against the enemies of Israel as they have against Israel itself? Or has Israel simply become to them an unwanted "step-child?" Does he prefer to see Israel a nation of lambs where lions once roamed? Does the sight of a strong, fighting Jewish soldier expose THEIR cowardice to such a degree that they now must attack that very symbol of Jewish Pride?

These little Jews are so filled with self-hatred and SHAME at their total inability to fight off the anti-Semites and enemies of Israel that they have no choice but to betray their own people. Do they think that by siding with the enemies of Israel they are writing an insurance policy for themselves should Israel ever be destroyed? Little do they know that an Arab knife will sink just as deeply into THEIR backs AFTER he finishes using them! You can be sure that just before a Jew is murdered, he is not asked if he is a pro-Palestinian Leftist or a proud Right Wing "fanatic" like we are at Masada2000.org! Finally, we don't mind at all if these cowardly, Leftist, self-hating Jewish Jew-bashers build THEIR OWN roads to Auschwitz. We just don't want them to drag us along with them!

Lerner-Ugly%20Pig.jpg

Let's Get Specific... "Rabbi" Michael Lerner

For every precious fighter for Israel, there are, unfortunately, Jews who despise being Jewish and wish Israel harm. So-called academics, intellectuals and thinkers, though not the exclusive Israel-bashers, do seem to have cornered this market with their damaged identities. lerner1.JPGIn America, Jewish "thinkers" are perfectly willing to spill their ink defending those who would spill Jewish blood. Foremost in this crusade is San Francisco's very own "New Age Rabbi," Michael Lerner... America's 'baddest' little Jew-Boy who first hit the pavement as one of the 1970s "Seattle Seven." [Note: any white powder on his mustache back then was probably cocaine, not anthrax]

This so-called "rabbi" (with a VERY small "r") is the founder of Tikkun magazine... the most successful supplier of "touchy-feely" Judaism... Jewish Leftism to those most interested in the very latest thing in Israel-bashing. Tikkun philosophy is an eccentric left-wing Jewish cult, mixing the Old Testament, medieval cabala mysticism and 1960’s style campus Marxism. This back-stabbing Jew is "appalled by Israel's brutal repression of Palestinian uprisings" and continues to this day to blame Jews for aggression against their enemies. Even during Israel's recent economic hardship, he and his San Francisco Bay area followers partook in a Passover boycott of Matzos from Israel to protest Israel's "oppression of Palestinians." [by the way, Lerner is renown in the Bay area for his "Tikkun Macaroons" made from rotten eggs, Matzo and hashish.] WHAT on earth is wrong with this man! lerner555.jpg

In the photo to the right we see Michael Lerner re-inventing himself and with unquestionably fewer head lice to boot! Commenting on the recent Israeli election of Ariel Sharon, Lerner wrote, "Countries [referring to Israel] that seek to maintain by force the occupation over another people will eventually drift toward repressive or even fascistic leadership." And so as Israeli Jews are being picked off like sitting ducks on their roads by machinegun-wielding Palestinians, Lerner berates Israelis for using "disproportionate force to repress an essentially unarmed population!" He concludes that Jews are so busy seeing themselves as "universal victims" that they cannot appreciate the suffering of others! WHAT on earth is wrong with this man!

When asked about the vicious lynching of the

two Israeli reservists in Ramallah, he "understood how Israel's occupation can lead to such violence." This statement alone tells volumes about where Lerner's head is coming from... and just how far up it's been shoved!!! Lerner goes further and asks Jews everywhere to "allow themselves to hear the cries of pain of the Palestinian people for that is the "only way we could ever atone the loss of that beautiful Palestinian child, Mohammed al-Dura. As if to cram a bit more guilt down our collective Jewish throats, Lerner continues... "The world sighed in pain as we watched an innocent 12-year-old crouching down in his father's lap and crying for mercy before Israeli soldiers' bullets killed him!" [Note: we are still awaiting his lamentations for 8-year-old Tehilla Cohen who had both feet blown off, ten-month-old Shalhevet Pass who was shot through her head by a Palestinian sniper, the two young boys Koby and Yossie from Tekoa whose beautiful Jewish faces were mauled so severely by "peaceful, unarmed" "Palestinian shepherds" that their fingerprints had to be used to see who was who ...or the many other Jewish children who were maimed, murdered or orphaned by the same essentially "unarmed" Palestinians.] WHAT on earth is wrong with this man!

What does the rabbi think Israel must do to end suicide bombings against Israel's Jewish citizens? "I believe that the Israeli people will never be safe until the Occupation ends and a new spirit of repentance and generosity spreads through the Jewish people, and we are able to atone for the pain we have inflicted on the Palestinian people in thirty five years of brutal occupation, and in forcing so many Palestinians out of their home and not allowing them to return in 1948-49." [in an email from Lerner to [email protected] 6/19/02] There you go again, Lerner... blaming the victims of Arab barbarism! My G_d, is there anything RIGHT about this man!

lerner55.jpgThere is a red line that, once reached and violated, marks one as a plotter, a pursuer AND an enemy of the Jewish people. Lerner has long ago crossed over that red line. He has joined hands, literally, with those who would massacre Jews and a fancy yarmulke upon his crown (or even a silly hat...see photo) does not cover up his abominations against Israel and her Jewish people. Beneath his mantle of "Morality, Justice and Ethics" and his delusions of intellectualism lies a pitiful self-hating weasel. And even more pitiful are those who follow him!

We invite all our readers to pay visits to both his

Tikkun Magazine AND Beyt Tikkun sites. See for yourself! We recommend you bring along a vomit bag..

Others Speak Out...

"Lerner recently wrote that "the brutality being done to the Palestinian People is as much a tragedy as the brutality being done by Palestinian terrorists to Israelis." THIS IS BIZARRE!!! This is as much in the field of fantasy as the ravings of the Mufti Hassan al Shaikh and Saeb Erakat and Hanan Ashwari and even Arafat himself! When was the last time a Jew blew up a discotheque full of young kids? When was the last time Jewish snipers regularly ambushed Arab women in their cars on the roads? THIS IS REALLY DELUSIONAL!!! THIS IS DEMENTED!!!

Lerner and I are about the same age and NEVER in my life have I heard a Jew say such a thing! Never have I heard a rabbi say [such things]. This is a dream-like state he seems to be in and worse it also smacks of the classical anti-Jewish canard that we Jews are greedy, that we do not want to share.

Lerner is a hopelessly neurotic editor and forgerer of letters to his own publication, Tikkun... done likely because not enough people cared to write to this foolish boy at all to fill up a "Letters" column. So he concocted letters by himself... and then answered them by himself."

Sha'i Ben Tekoa

Israel National News - "Deprogram Program" June 4, 2001

The cake at his first wedding was inscribed with a Weatherman slogan: Smash Monogamy. Soon he and his wife had a child, and the young family went east. When the couple separated shortly thereafter, mother and son went to live in Boston. Lerner, however, returned to Berkeley. "Michael," I said, "how can you leave your son in the east to come to Berkeley? He needs you." Without hesitation, Lerner answered: "David, you don’t understand. I have to be here. Berkeley is the center of the world-historical spirit."

Lerner also made me understand that drugs were central to the consciousness of the Movement. On discovering that I had never taken LSD, he was incredulous: "You have to take LSD. Until you’ve dropped acid, you don’t know what socialism is."

Lerner, A Rabbi?

lerner-zel2.jpg (Left to Right: Rabbi Cheech and Rabbi Chong

Lerner waves his "Rabbi" title in order to promote Palestinian terrorism, Marxism, and leftist anti-Semitism. Lerner is not a Rabbi and has no Rabbinic training nor ordination. When asked about this, he insists three mysterious nameless Orthodox Rabbis ordained him in a special Beit Din without his having been inconvenienced by such irrelevances as studying Talmud. Of these three, on occasions he has said that two were Chabad Rabbis and that two were feminist women. Since there are no Orthodox female Rabbis and Chabad Rabbis do not exactly make a practice of ordaining hippies with no Rabbinic training as Rabbis, Lerner is obviously lying when he says he has some sort of ordination. (Lerner actually insists it was ORTHODOX ordination!) Photo at left shows Mickie Lerner and Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi together for the Lerner's rabbinical mitvah.

What's with this guy!! Is he some sort of pervert? As part of his ordination of Lerner, what else did Schachter-Shalomi ask Lerner to do?

Lerner says he was ordained Rabbi in 1995, but had in fact been calling himself Rabbi for many years before that, such as while serving as Hillary Clinton's guru, and so is in effect admitting he is a liar and has been a Rabbi imposter. The California Board of Rabbis lists Lerner as a member "Rabbi", which clearly means they simply took Lerner's word on his having been ordained and never bothered to look into his background. Lerner is listed on their web site as being a "Renewal Rabbi."

The Renewal movement is in fact not a movement of Judaism at all but rather a pagan liberation theology movement in which leftist political fads are the only form of religion. The Tikkun-Renewal movement is pseudo-Judaism par excellence. Listing its gurus as member "Rabbis" by the California Board of Rabbis is as obscene as listing the assorted "Rabbis" from the "Jews for Jesus" and similar "Messianic Judaism" movements. It makes a mockery of Judaism.

Immediately contact the California Board of Rabbis and protest this travesty. I suggest you demand that Lerner and his "Renewal" cult be deleted from any membership or association with the Board. The only reason Lerner even wishes to be listed as a member is to use his membership as a means of legitimizing and as a fig leaf for his campaign to promote anti-Jewish terrorism and anti-Semitism.

SEVEN QUESTIONS FOR RABBI MOONBEAM...

lerners.JPG1. Just how many times HAVE you been married! (#1) Therrie Cook, your "partner," and mama of your boy, Akiba Jeremiah Lerner
. A son who writes, "I'm sick and tired of using the emotional scars of the Holocaust to explain why
NanFink.jpg some Yemenite Israeli punk or some Brooklyn Jew feels he can go around with his Golani buddies and abuse Palestinians" and that "the real opponents were a bunch of right-wing Jews" and how "many rabbis and right-wingers" were just like "dogs lapping up their vomit!" My, haven't you've done a swell job with that boy! Or perhaps he spent too much time in college [as he put it] "reading feminist literature and trying to overcome my male conditioning." By the way, where IS Therrie now? Is she still getting stoned on that Reichian Orgone Energizer? Next came (#2) Nan Fink
,
Zen master://http://www.futurenet.org/4SustainSx...uot;]Zen master at Chochmat HaLev and co-founder of Tikkun Magazine. Then (#3) "Rabbi" Debora Kohn in 1998 [Please send us her photo so we may complete our album] Did we leave anyone out?

2. Why do you prefer "White Meat?" Please refer to this document to refresh your memory!

3. You always bring up your son's service in the IDF as proof that you are indeed a "Zionist" and not working against Israel's best interests. So tell us about your son's discharge from the Israeli Army . Is there any truth to the rumor that he deserted?

4. Why would anyone with an ounce of love for, of or sense of loyalty to, Israel want to belong to a "Temple" run by the likes of you? Or why would anyone want to pay tribute to your self-glorification by buying your lousy Tikkun magazine?

5. When was the last time you visited Israel? Was it way back in 1970 when you climbed the Mount of Olives while high on mescaline? (By the way, do you know where we can score some good cannabis before shabbas and is it true that you daven nud_e in front of a mirror?)

6. Are you really a "rabbi?" We are told (by YOU, of all people!) that in 1995 three Orthodox-ordained rabbis made you kosher enough that YOU now consider yourself one. We know Schachter-Salami was one of the ordaining rabbi. Were any of THESE three guys in on your ordination?

7. It is a fundamental fact that there exist two different Lefts... the <A href="http://masada2000.org/liberals.html">Stupid Left and the Satanic Left. The two are very different, although they work together. People who are part of the first are simply stupid people. People who are part of the second may in fact be quite shrewd, but are evil and nefarious. There is no third type of leftist. Rabbi Lerner, we've been told that you're not stupid. Therefore, we must conclude...

If you have your own questions for the rabbi, email him at [email protected] or phone him at 510-526-6889 or write him at 951 Cragmont Ave., Berkeley, Ca. 94708

Note: The "Rabbi" has already been bombarded with "unpleasant" emails from some of the visitors to this web page. It looks as if he can make life miserable for Israel's Jews but he doesn't like it when he too feels the need to look over his shoulder. However, since we have compassion for our fellow Jews (even traitors like Lerner), we ask that you DO NOT threaten him... even though the truth is that Lerner is far more a threat to the existence of Israel than our Masada2000.org readers are to him!

Final Comments to Lerner: Michael Lerner, you're hated by most "informed" Jews because your loose lips are placing Israel in great danger. People who are dedicated to destroying Israel are using traitors/fools like you as ammunition in their strategy. The use of Jews and their organizations against Israel is the most effective weapon in the Arab arsenal!!

Most Christians also have contempt for you because they see you as a betrayer of your own people. They may not know WHY you do it but they recognize a traitor when they see one! Besides, most Christians see Israel as a "Holy Land" and a gift from G_d! Why YOU don't is a mystery to them AND to us! The Arabs and Muslims have a similar contempt for you. Sure, they'll say that they admire you for being so supportive of "their cause." And yes they'll even USE you by quoting and reproducing your many tirades against Israel. But, behind all their warm handshakes and broad smiles, they also see you for what you REALLY are... a coward, a freak and a traitor to your own people. For not even their Allah would have mercy on a Muslim who sold out his people as you have!

We wish we could say that Rabbi Michael Lerner was the only Jew backstabbing the nation of Israel and putting her very survival at risk. One might have expected Jews, especially after six million were murdered during the Holocaust, to bend over backwards to protect and defend the miracle of Israel. Certainly we would expect this from a rabbi! What makes this man so dangerous is that he uses his rabbinical credentials as legitimacy. If a rabbi condemns Israel, then Israel must truly be a rogue nation!

Unfortunately, there are other rabbis who place Israel on the chopping block. And nearly as unfortunate, there are "ordinary" Jews who distance themselves from Israel. If all of them were listed on this site, the sheer number would grind the Internet to a halt! But we've included a few more...

Amira Haas

Israel Shamir

Gideon Levy

UG I must admit I don't have the background to evaluate whether or not you are biased on this issue and just giving us one side, but I'm impressed with your knowledge of Israeli politics, and have learned a lot reading your posts. In fact I know more about the history of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar than I do about Israel and the Middle East, or even the country where I was born. :o

What about Jews who oppose Israeli politics, Israeli occupation of non-Israeli territories, or even in some cases, Israeli statehood itself? 'Self-hating Jews?'

Thank you, I don't even come close to having your knowledge of South East Asia, but I have done a decent amount of studying about Israel for the last few years, and I feel that I know far more about the situation than most casual detractors of Israel and her policies. Most of the information that I write myself is straight from the history books, but, sometimes, I also like posting radical opinion pieces from Israel's supporters just to think about.

Jewish people are a varied lot with lots of different beliefs, so I don't think that ALL Jews that oppose Israel are self-hating Jews, but the ones that aren't certainly seem to be lacking in common sense as far as I am concerned.

There is little doubt that I am biased towards preventing Israel from being wiped off the map now that it exists, but I will admit that I might not have agreed with locating it there in the first place, but it is not going any place now.

By the way, the article on self-hating Jews is from the list you provided. :D

I know you like to post radical things, but this hate-filled piece of venom causes more harm than good to anyone supporting Israel.  The author's arrogance in assigning moral value to anyone is amazing. So, according to him, being Jewish means you must march lock-step with Israel? This is exactly the criticism being leveled at American Jews who seemingly ignore US interests to suport all things Israeli.

I am an American, and I have served my country.  Yet I feel I have the right to criticize it when I deem it appropriate.  Just as any Israeli--Jewish, Muslim, or Christian--has the right to criticize their country.  That does not make them anti-semitic. That does not necessarily make them anti-Israeli. They might be anti-semitic or anti-Israeli, they might be anti-Zionist, or maybe they just disagree with one policy.

I must disagree. I know that you are too young to have served in Vietnam, but do you think that Jane Fonda and her crew were justified when they spit at returning soldiers and called them "baby killers"? I think that they were traitors who hurt our country during a time of war and I did not agree with being there either.

I don't see that these people in this newsletter are going around attacking Jews that are just critical of certain policies. They are attacking Jews who are actually aiding and abetting the enemy. For example, Noam Chomsky is a traitor to his religion and his country.

Israel is different from other countries. America was never in danger of being attacked by Vietnam, but Israel is always on the verge of Armageddon if they slip up even in the slightest. They can not take anything concerning National Security lightly.

Not to nitpick, but did Jane Fonda ever spit on anyone?  I mean actually spit on them?

My brother was a pilot in the Air Force at the time, and plenty of my friends had brothers there, so I was pretty incensed at Fonda's trip to North Vietnam.  However, I have mellowed some since when she has publically apologized and admitted that she was used as a tool for the North Vietnamese propoganda machine.

But to be more specific, no, I do not think anyone was justified in spitting on any returning soldier. But to protest, well, that was their right.

"Traitor to his religion?"  I find it hard to make that accusation against anyone. Am I a traitor to Christianity because I don't agree with most of the hard-line Christian right? Or because I have attended Buddhist ceremonies? Some would way so, but quite frankly, I would disagree.

  • Author

I have no idea if Ms Fonda spit on anyone, but I think that the way she protested was wrong and she deserved the abuse she got from much of the country. However, I admire her for admitting that she was wrong and wish her no ill will.

Chompsky has a way with words, but he uses them to make excuses for an enemy who is killing his own people. If you think that he is correct to do this, then you think he is a saint, but if you think that he is a phoney who is playing intellectual games to prove how clever he is, you think that he is a lower than a piece of dog doo. :o

Personally, I can accept "lower than a piece of dog doo." To me, that represents disapproval of his views and writings.  However, to call someone a "traitor" to a religion rather assumes that the person choosing the word somehow has the inside scoop on God and religion.

Chomsky probably feels that he is the virtuous one and is acting within the precepts of his religious beliefs. Call him mistaken, fine. But caling him a "traitor" to his religion seems rather presumptuous to me.

[ For example, Noam Chomsky is a traitor to his religion and his country.

Noam Chomsky is a secular Jew and a citizen of the United States and its intellengentsia. How exaclty can he be a traitor to a religon to which he does not subscribe or to a country to which he does not belong (assuming Israel here)? As you yourself have highly touted the merits of both American democracy and *Israel, free and open discussion does not qualify someone as a traitor simply because some may find it disagreeable.
