What Will She Have To Declare?

Featured Replies

My fiancée will be going for her interview soon, and hopefully soon thereafter will be flying to the States. She will not be bringing much more than clothes and some household items. When she enters the US, how does she fill out the customs forms? Will she have to pay a duty on her clothes and such? What about jewelry?

did you have to pay a duty for your clothes when you came to thailand.

Only new items in their original containers and packages will be considered by the inspecting officer and checked against her customs declaration. Have her be meticulous as Asians seem to get special attention when it comes to having their baggage rummaged through. No food products for sure.

Definitely no fruit or vegtables. 13 years ago my wife (now ex) tried to "hide" some in her suitcase despite my telling her not to do it. At customs the luggage went thru x-ray and guess who's bag they wanted to open? Cost me $100 and was told it could have been $1000 and of course customs kept the fruit/vegtables.
