Europeans like to think they make the best porn in the world. That might have been true 20-30 years ago but to be honest it's been a long time since I've seen anything from Europe (or the US) which could be classified as good. If anything the centre of porn seems to be shifting east with the central European states staking a claim for the title.

But I think it's all pretty ordinary still until you see what the Japanese can do. Maybe it's just my asia-centric viewpoint but I'd say the one thing which could revive the Japanese economy from its current malaise is the porn industry. Japan's next big export ?

The Japanese consistently come out in sexual satisfaction surveys somewhere near the bottom of the list. Given the extent and content/variety of the porn they produce I wonder how these two things are related. I'm no psychologist but there must be an argument for a very repressed society there somewhere.

Ok, in all honesty im relatively naive about different kinds of porn, its not something that floats my boat much. But, i have of course seen some, particularly when friends have emailed me some link to some bizarre site showing something weird (not TOO weird!) stuff. I received some links for Japanese porn and to be honest I was like "<deleted>?". Seemed to me that it mainly consisted of women playing either very childish explorative roles or strange passive roles (acting like kids who arent sure about whats going on..but let it happen). Also, a lot of whimpering leading to crying out like wailing cats. Undressing, touching etc. Maybe what i saw isnt reflective of general Japanese porn (no desire to go looking around to see if it is), but if it is, then it seems to be catering for male fantasy (well, nothing new there then), but a fantasy based on women being these innocent but curious-about-sex wide-eyed childlike creatures that men guide to do things and eventually end up crying and screaming out and just lying there whilst getting...*#@ked. Thats the possible future of porn? haha, sibeymai, you wont have me holding my hands up saying im a closet porn watcher! Its just not my bag. If it was, I would be open about it.

Sexually, porn honestly does little for me, maybe because it seems to be geared towards a male audience. Its just too anatomical to appeal to me (seems to me that men really like to watch their bits or other peoples bits go into other bits..i dont think women dig that as much..? ). Then again, as i said, i havent done the rounds looking to find what might appeal to me, but then again, im dont feel my life is particularly lacking because i dont have porn in it. I have other things to do with my spare time when im bored I have a normal healthy libido, and a normal healthy sex-life (not suggest people who watch porn dont have these, but its just not something i feel i need or want.) BUT, for the times i have seen it, the images have left lasting impressions on my mind. Not because i found them sexually fulfilling, but because im interested and curious about the psychological aspect of it. No, that isnt a "get out clause!". If i had not studied Art, I would have studied psychology. My elective in my degree was in psychology and my dissertation was on the cognitive responses to Visual Art. Im interested in what stimulates people and why. So, my thought processes whilst watching that Japanese porn was probably a tad more clinical than say the average Japanese man.

Speaking from the dark side and assuming we're talking about 'ordinary' rather than 'extreme' the participants in Japanese porn are more convincing in that they appear to be doing it for the sex rather than for the paypacket at the end of the shoot.

Having lived there some time myself, I can say that the sex scene- for many men, anyway- is very compartmentalized and fetish-based. You're supposed to have a 'type,' and if your type is a bit too weird for you to marry it, then that's what the porn's for. Uniforms, women's underwear, S&M, rape fantasies are all very common fetishes- and yes, scat is a bit more 'mainstream.'
