Okay, I'm sure you need to come to Thailand to get away from that hel_l hole country of yours, I'll try not to twist your words, I don't understand how you said it is "more accessible" and implied it is more accessible.

Enjoy your break, hel_l can wait :o

its simple .........the UK is smaller than Oz

if you lived in the middle of England you are still only 1 hour away from the sea ( coast )

if you lived in the the middle of Oz you proberley 12 hours away from the sea ( coast )

lets not forget , the uk has good roads, that take you all over the country very easily hence its more accessible

i think you've had one Chang to many !!!

why do you keep going on about the coast line .......oh i know ..... its because thats Australia main (only ) attraction , that and a big rock !!! :D

I am excited to go back to the USA. I miss clean air and water, quality control. The landscape, temperate weather and lots of job opportunities for me in spite of the economic downturn. I miss restaurants, history and architecture. Though I do see the appeal of Thailand but if I am honest with myself the #1 thing is the women and the other pluses fade out very quickly without them. Hopefully my lady will be happy with me in the USA where we are going in a few months. If not then I may end up back here and the pluses I mentioned about the USA might take a back seat. I guess it's all about what you value but really most places have strengths and weaknesses.

Restaurants? - KFC, McDonalds, Burger King are already here.

History - The USA doesn't have any, unless you count exterminating the Indians, ( or "Native Americans", as the few that are left are now known).

Seriously - hope it works out for you both in the USA, but Thai ladies DO miss being in Thailand.

Actually the Brits helped a lot with the Indians. They gathered up blankets from people who died from smallpox and donated the blankets to the (Native Americans) Indians.

Yea, we don't include English history! :o

The survey seems unfairly weighted

Many may not want to go back but may have to for financial reasons

I considered your point and I find it total BS with a cherry on top, you whinger.

If you HAVE to go back because you're skint, you would vote one of the DON'T WANT TO GO BACK choices. Even if you ARE going to back, you can still not want to go back.

whats your problem with caf .he just said he might have to return home because of financial situation..wheres the harm in saying that..he might not want to go back but if his money runs dry in thailand he might have to go back to work...there might be many in that situation

The problem was his comment on the poll was not based on logic. There are plenty of voting options for him and people like him. The focus of the poll is about FEELINGS about moving back, not about REASONS for moving back. You can't do ANY poll without attracting terminally negative whingers like this. No poll is perfect but it is annoying when the nit pickers are picking at nits that don't exist. I have also noticed that people like him never start their own polls to focus on the issues that interest them, that wouldn't be nearly as much fun as tearing down other efforts.

If you read posts on other threads you will see he is very arrogant and bigoted. Hence his response to a very reasonable comment. But he never likes to be wrong. To get an idea of his attitude problem, I paste below one of his posts, one in which he admits he may have to go back for circumstances. Not a very clear thinker, is he?

"I have nothing to move back to. US friends and relatives that I was close to, mostly dead. Bridges burned. No house, no car, trashed investment accounts, no pot to piss in. The US economy is in shambles and my skills are staler than a Pattaya beach road hooker. But even then I only voted that I extremely don't want to go back. Sorry to hear so many people would rather die than go back, that isn't good, because many people will have to go back due to circumstances. "

Most Thai women that have lived overseas, that I've met, miss Thailand in the beginning, but soon realize how many rights they have been deprived of and how backwards Thailand is and do not want to return except for vacations. The only ones that do not seem to get over Thailand are the hardcore hookers with almost no education who come back and work when they can get away from their husbands.

NONE of my friends wives want to come back to Thailand - even for hoilday - after living in London or New York for a few years.

Yeah you're right there mate.

When we first moved to Australia my Mrs used to miss Thailand like crazy, it was more of a family thing.

Now it's hard to get her back even for a short holiday!

Who but a spineless masochist likes to be wrong? However, anyone who knows my posting history knows I am quite willing and cheerful to admit when I am indeed wrong, when indeed I am wrong, but that particular dig at the poll was completely without merit.

I extremely don't want to move back to the UK, its miserable, cold and expensive. I don't want to go back to live there but visit my family twice a year. I hate the place, it is ok for 2 weeks, then i am straight back.

My sentiments exactly PG

Why do you all hate your country so much?

dumb question aussie, its piss poor weather, immigration problems,no work, bankrupt, white trash/chavs,need i go on,now the land down under is paradise, and if it was n't for the thai ladies,i'd be back down under too.

Other than the lower cost of living I see no advantage to living in Thailand, at all. I see it only being attractive to old men with young wives or young men doing the bar scene. I don't knock this but if you are trying to live a more conventional life then I see no attraction anymore. Subtract the 'pussy factor' from the equation, including old men with child brides, and see how many want to stay then. The UK, Australia, the USA and rest of our home country's are better than Thailand in every way, other than the likelihood of getting laid on a night out.

Might be true, but a satisfactory sex life is nothing to sneeze at.

I pity those that structure their lives around it though :o

Although I like living here I don't dread the thought of going home. Its not as cheap here as it used to be and it would be nice to escape the heat sometimes. What I do dread is the thought of having to go to work again which would probably be a necessity back in the U.K. :D:o

Many of us whinge about life in Thailand, but things are not so good all over, and I think most of us would rather stay here rather than move back to our home countries. How about it?

Some poll details:

-- non-expats not covered

-- people with unusual life histories, never lived in home country, having no nationality, having ten passports, extraterestial beings, etc. all not covered

-- I thought of adding the option "I am a wanted criminal in my home country" but thought the better of it because such people will tend to be paranoid, and with good reason

A good poll

Would be another ssue if you added

If you could afford to move back

Many of us can but not sbai sabai in the sunshine plus increasing stereotypes racism against Thai partners

I got used to ripple of falng and double pricing visa dicrimination paying tax with no vote but would not expose my gentle wife to the xenophobia in Europe or Oz in my experience US is better on the surface but as we cannot live there its irrelevant in the green card lottry the only 2 nations excluded were Ireland and UK which covered US in ever war bar the Nam folly seems muslim militants and mexican wetbacks are whats in demand

From BEDBANDIT (post #76)

“i never said the UK coastline is lager”

How about another poll : "if the UK coastline WAS lager, how quick would you go back?" :D:D

To those decrying the Scottish nation, we currently have an agent, working in Downing Street, who has managed to destroy the English economy, in a mere 18 months, :o , we never give up.

Incidentally Scottish <deleted> are never old, they get lots of fresh air, due to wearing the kilt. :D

I agree. But unfortunately the U.S. government has worn themselves very very thin with me. Maybe in a few years, maybe Obama will do some good, maybe I'll be better armed to stand against them and for principles. Maybe then. Either way, I agree with your statement. As my father used to tell me, "it's F'd up, but it's the best thing going". Finally I begin to see. Thanks Thailand. Anybody else feel the same way?

Ive been saving up a long time to move here (about 2 years).

I have been living in bangkok for 2 months now and I absolutely love it, im not here for the sex as I have a wife.

Im here for the crazy lifestle and the great people. The culture is amazing and I find Thai's to be very interesting people, but its still early days for me, ask me again in a few years.

I used to live in Sydney, it was a nice place but i grew up there and bored of the place, plus the people there all seem to be up themselves these days. Everyone is rude.

I was going to move to Melbourne or Bangkok, I chose Bangkok and hope I have made the right move

Thai women follow you back home because they are greedy, want a job and send all the money back to mummy, without contributing to the house, give me a pmmy girl in uk any day.

Wrong. Well, maybe you are right about the Thai women that are willing to hang around you. Either way, you can have that loud, over-weight, seriously in need of dental work, Pommy girl, I surely don't. In fact, it's the main reason I avoid going to the U.K.

Have a nice trip home!

Excellent poll and topic. I wanted to put in my 2 cents worth, although I've already put in about a buck and half into other posts recently. I'll comment only on a selected post, rather than every one I may have an opinion about (apparently that would be a "nerd rage", whatever). So here is:

I don't agree that our home countries are better in every way. Granted, being in a country where 80% of the women are thin and mostly attractive increases your odds, if not desire. (not to mention the men, for those of you so inclined), as opposed to our home countries where in many place it seems 80% are overweight, over-bearing, and less than attractive. I had exceptional girlfriends there, most from this part of the world, a good life there, but tired of the huge over-bearing, over-priced, over-sized government. Originally from Alaska, I had 4 1/2 years of living the easy life in Las Vegas, not having to work, new vette, hotels, casinos, etc., before coming to Thailand based on my good experiences with Thai's in the U.S. I look forward the each day being warm, not cold like Alaska, not excessively HOT!!!, like Vegas, and now really look forward to the European trips about 2x per year for travel, climate change, even skiing. I will pursue a U.K. grad degree, maybe even post-grad while living inexpensively in Thailand before I even consider returning to the rat race. Then it will most likely be to better prepare for my next period of time away from there. I am really inclined to believe that man should live and experience life in many places and cultures. Life is after all what you make it, wherever you are.

Two cents worth now contributed. Again, great topic, forgetting who the OP is now, but thanks for the effort.

John

Thailand and the UK are both great places. Very different. I think it is how you look at the place. Everywhere has good and bad. I choose to look for the good. No point moaning on about weather, or prices, or bad drivers or whatever when the positives far outweigh the negatives imho.

Good post...

How badly do I want to move back to Vancouver Island, Canada?....bad enough that I just bought a one-way ticket to Vancouver for May 4th, after living here for about 8 years.

Yes, there are some things that I loved about Thailand....riding my harley without papers, running red lights, speeding and driving drunk, paying bribes for whatever I wanted and not having to wait in line for anything, getting the Royal Treatment at any hospital, as long as I flashed enough money.

I also love the tight family life here and having decent neighbors, who are poor, but have a heart of Gold.

Why am I moving back?

I'm tired of living with air pollution in the North and swimming with plastic bags in the South....

I'm tired of mechanics trying to charge my new battery at full blast, in 10 minutes

I'm tired of racist ex-politician criminals getting to adress audiences, while on the lam...

I'm tired of everyone expecting a handout, because I am a foreigner...

I'm tired of a bunch of burned out, old, drunk perverts explaining to me, how they are doing a public service by sleeping with 18 year old school girls. (I guess it has never occured to them, that you can help somebody financially, without sexually exploiting them)

I'm tired of bankers telling my friends that they need to buy insurance from them or make large deposits, before they can enjoy the privillege of paying 600 Baht a year for a safety deposit box

I'm tired of Grammar teachers at NES English school, who proudly display their Masters Degree earned in the US, filling my Thai daugher with Bulls@#t and inaccuracies.

I'm tired of the Thai education system (or lack of it)

I'm tired of people worshipping money, waiing and bowing to rich A$$H&%$$ (poor hardworking farmers almost crawling on the floor in front of these rich, ruthless bastards)

I'm tired of rude foreigners using this country as their playground, with no respect for local customs.

I'm tired of village idiots waking me up over the village speakers in the morning

I'm tired of Wat announcements

I'm tired of election and advertising being blarred at me from trucks

I'm tired of eating rice and rice noodles

I'm tired of knowing about the 20% per month money lenders

I'm tired of the horrible medical care in this country, if you are poor

I'm tired of anti-biotics

and...

I miss the clean air on Vancouver Island

I miss the clean water

I miss drinking clean water from any tap

I miss having electricity all the time and highspeed ADSL that gives me high speed all the time

I miss having intelligent people to talk to

I miss having real friends, people I don't have to think about weather or not they want something from me

I miss good Western Food at a decent price

I miss my hottub

I miss skiing in the winter and hanging out at the ski lodge

I miss good beer (Molson Canadian ;-)

I miss being politically involved in my country without having to worry about getting deported

I miss poker games without cheaters

I miss my old motorhome

I miss going canoeing for three days, without meeting anybody on the water

I miss climbing the local mountains without having to pay 200 Baht to do it

I miss seeing wildlife (and I don't mean in the local frying pan), such as Deer, Elk, Moose, Beaver, Grizzlies and Black Bears....

I miss parking my motorhome for 8 months, turning the key and it starting right away

I miss good quality SAE (Standard Tools), to wrench my bike

I miss my double-double coffee from Tim Hortons

I miss being able to buy a car for $500 and drive it for 3 years without hazzle

I miss hiking in clean air

I miss Wild Salmon

I miss the local pub

I miss real music

I miss Western appliances at decent prices...a good coffee machine, washing machines and dryers, a comfortable bed, good tools

Well, that was my, I miss Canada Rant lol

Since my wife and daughter are Thai, we might very well move back here one day, but not for a while, I think.

It will take me at least 4 months, to get sick and tired of Canada ;-)

Cheers
