I bought this lens some time ago and haven't really used it much so today I shot a few frames off.

Not a particularly awe inspiring landscape but this is pretty much straight out of the camera

Capture One RAW process and a bit of sharpening in CS3

Pretty impressive coverage IMHO with back to front sharpness and good rendition in the shadows

Anyway - quite a good lens and I'm looking forward to using it a lot more

Good photo, very sharp!

But where is it? I cannot see any haze like we have here up in northern Thailand!

Super wide on a full frame camera. :o

How is the distortion at the 12mm setting?

It does not show in the landscape.

Nice lens. How much was it?

I'm thinking of buying the 5D and my choices are, either the 24-70 f2.8 or 24-105 f4(I think). Do you have either of these.

Firstly it's down here in the mid south - Kaeng Krachan National Park

Cost of the lens was c. $600

Amazingly very little distortion IF you position yourself along the correct parallels i.e. don't point up or down as obviously a lens of this extreme will "Bend". You can see the effect of body misalignment very clearly and then it's just a case of re-positioning.

The barrel distortion is nominal also - actually less than my Canon 17-40 L

I don't possess the 24-70 or the 24-105 so I can't comment.

I have the 24-105 (on a 1.3 crop camera) and find it to be an ideal walkaround lens. A bit soft at 24mm and F4, but otherwise produces very good images.

I have the Sigma 12-24 which I don't think matches the 24-105 for image quality; but then it is cheaper. I used to have the Canon 10-22 which was a great lens, but had to sell it when I moved from 1.6 crop.

I have them both. Bought 24-70 sooner and 24-105 later.

I agree with hughden that 24-105 is an ideal walkabout lens and it's the lens always attached to my 5D body when I'm on extended trips overseas. 24-70 is simply too heavy and bulky to be hanging from your neck for more than 15 min. They're both very sharp, but 24-105's barrel distortion and vignetting is too much for an L lens though it can easily be corrected with RAW processing software. 24-105 is also my choice of lens when I shoot on events like wedding and funerals, occasions you can't screw the shots for second chance. 24-105's IS is pretty impressive. You are far more likely to avoid camera shake blur with 24-105 with IS switched on than with extra 2 stops of shutter speed you gain from F2.8 of 24-70 under the same light condition.

Here's comparative review.

I agree with Nordlys, no barrel or pincushion distortion...............

Quite amazing.

Only perspective. :o
