Hi anyone who reads this!

We are looking for other home schooling families who are living in or close to Chiang Mai. My husband and I have two daughters, one of 8 years old and the other of 3. Although we are not anti any specific religion, we are looking for people who are not educating their children in a particularly religious way. In other words, I respect the rights of everyone to educate their children in any way they wish but I'm looking for a family or a group of home schoolers that respect the freedom of the individual to choose their own beliefs. We are looking for an environment of fun and learning and play without too many rules or limitations (but obviously no anarchy or anything!).

If anyone here knows anyone who home schools along these lines or can send me any info, I would REALLY appreciate it!

I did got something like 'the children wouldn't gain social skills', which is absolute tosh of course. I should be interested to hear how you are getting on as I will be doing on, I am going for it myself.

We are a family in CM, who are also homeschooling our 10yo child. We are also interested in the existence of a homeschooling group, or at least some homeschooling families we could interact with. Would love to hear from you!

Home school stuff is all over the internet. My advise is to get high speed internet - of coarse.

There is always the conundrum regarding socialization. My theory is to put them out there ( in danger for sure). It's a hard question for parents - no doubt.

Either way it's up to the parents to keep current - not an easy job. Everyday - sleep - love food - relaxing - hot bath / music training.

Students must be ready to learn - bottom line.

I don't think that this is a conundrum, socialisation (and not being bullied, submitting to group pressure) should be part of the curriculum as should be instilling intellectual curiosity, wanting to learn. There are plenty of studies demonstrating that home schooled children are not disadvantaged in this way. Try googling 'home schooling + socialisation'. I was an antisocial outsider at school and I wasn't the only one, remember? Those guys that you hardly noticed, remember?

And yes, one parent must be around for at least 4 hours a day. A day wouldn't consist of the pupil sitting in front of the computer all day. Trips to local artisans, explaining about the environment, basically using the Thai word for 'why' a bit more often than is usual in the schools here.
