I voted for Chaweng but now believe Bangrak is better when you consider the time & distance that the KPG & KT members would have to travel. After that boat ride, a short walk to the place would be better than getting ripped off by one of the famous Samui taxis. :o

As George mentioned in his post, it can be a bar, hotel or restaurant. So the options are there.

I know Murphy's hosted the "Koh Samui Pool League" presentation, (I went), that was fun. I think upstairs was roped off for private function till 10 or something. Parking plenty, (behind Mc D's or the bar)

If Chaweng wins the vote, Tropical Murphy's would be my first choice. Plenty of room and live music.

Great idea, here it comes but I think they are trying to have a private function. I might be wrong, but I think how they do their events.

Yes, the Pool Competition is one event and I think for that one night the top floor could be "private function" only....

all it needs is talking to the management...

Seems to me that any venue not on the beach would be a mistake. Why come to Samui to have a function on the road? Surely you would want to be able to wander barefoot in the sand...and Lamai has the highest concentration of escorts, so for all the single men, this would provide the best selection of entertainment.

Tropical Murphy's is on the road, is it not? Who wants to come all this way to be off the beach?

BBC is nice and spacious but still covered if it rains.

Close to pier for Tao and Phangan folks , parking no probs

A few naughty bars within staggering distance for Mr Wolfe

BBC has NO beach. It has a nice view, but there is no beach in that area.

Chillin Bar behind the MacDonalds in Lamai has the only full-sized pool table and I am sure that Mats would be pleased to host such an event.

It's on the beach and has ample parking just about 30 meters away.

Perfect.

Are these usually evening events ?

Beaches don't hold much interest for me after the sun goes down, view of the lights of KPG make a nicer back drop IMO.

Speaking for myself, I've seen the beach enough that it wouldn't bother me if the event wasn't near one.

Lamai is about as far away as we could go with this. I probably wouldn't bother going myself and I live in Bophut. R/t from here could run about 600 baht.

I'm sure people taking the boat over from KPG couldn't care less about parking but they may be less interested in making the trek to Lamai from Bangrak after the boat ride.

Pilchard I agree with you BBC is a good idea also very close to where I live - within staggering distance!

No BBC, horrible location for the rest of us and the food is not so good.

Any and all suggestions welcome for suitable venue

Premier Bar in Bangrak? I know the owner he could give a good deal and probably a free BBQ. How many people would you expect?

Not expecting many people then

Most places can handle a couple dozen people. Add up the active (and banned posters) on the Samui/KPG/Tao forum and you'd be hard-pressed to get 20 people out of them to show up. If there were more then they probably would have had one of these parties earlier.

Sorry to single you out as an example of many, but what is this, "Oh, I can't be bothered to go from the ferry to wherever"? Nothing on these small islands are really far apart and this event is a one-off. Are you all so lazy or just so stingy you can't pay whatever the taxi fare might be? Maybe we should all just have our cams on and we can party at home and give face time online.

If the gathering was on the opposite side of Koh Tao and I wanted to go, I'd go. Who cares how much the taxi is or how far from the ferry? Come on you guys! It's not like you have to charter a Lear jet to get here....

edit: Oh, and 600 baht? People spend that on beer and drinks easily in a night. Or a dinner for two.

I guess it should be possible to organise some kind of transport, e.g. 2 minibus with drivers, for one night. I will not support these greedy b@$tards with 1000 Baht or so!

That would be the way to go.

Gee Mark, on the flip side are you so cheap that you can't afford the 30 baht worth of gas to drive up to Bangrak? But I guess it's OK for members from the other islands to pay for the ferry AND a taxi to Lamai (in addition to the traveling time) so that all you have to do is walk across the street 5 minutes before the start.

As for the 600 baht, I've stopped drinking but if I start by then, I would much rather spend 600 on booze than 1200 on booze and a taxi. OR, maybe you're saying that if I pay for my taxi you'll cover my drink tab since it's such an insignificant amount? Well, I won't give one baht to any of the crooked taxi drivers on this island so you're off the hook for my tab. :o

If you do it in Chaweng is that not roughly half way inbetween Bang Rak and Lamai :o

And Bangrak is roughly half way between KPG & Lamai. I forgot about KPG at first that's why I voted for Chaweng and even posted here in favour of Springer Pub because it's closer to Lamai. So I'm just thinking about others here. If I thought only of myself, I'd say let's do it in Fisherman's Village so I can just walk there in 10 minutes.
