can anyone tell me abouth peppers (the hot ones)? and allergies?

my daughter had a very acute and severe asthma attack after going into the 'non ventilated' kitchen area of the thai workers where they were pounding about two kilo of hot peppers to make 'nam prik' for a party... all my kids had reactions:super red cheeks, burning sensations in throat, my two asmathics had attacks and my third had slight breathing problems... i also noticed that at least four guys sat outside coughing because of the 'prik ' ... my daughter had the attack and i thought it was finished but a week later she ended up in hospital with 'silent chest' asthma (doc. didnt listen to me when i realized that something wasnt right...)which may have been initialized byt the peppers and exacerbated by a common cold and lack of proper treatment (i'm sueing the kibbutz doctor- she's not a member so i can) my child could have died....(her usual meds didnt help her)

i know that peppers have some chemical that can be used in chemical defense sprays... now i'm afraid to take her to visit the workers cause they pound peppers alot, and they all smoke so that may be catalyst for my child, but the guys ask after her all the time ....i tried to explain allergies etc to no avail...

I had asthma when I was a kid. Luckily, I got rid of it (how, I don't know). However, I still have a problem with breathing the fumes from deep fried chilies (or liquidised chilies). I am not a doctor and have no medical experience, but I would keep your daughter out of kitchens where chilies are being prepared and/or cooked.

Bina,

I get asthma.Sometimes the smell :o from Thai cooking does bring on a slight attack, however it does not preclude me from eating the offending food in any shape or form. :D
