We have been gong every year but no more. The whole island has been taken over by drug addicts who have noisy rave parties all day and night. No-one can sleep. Everone is selling and using drugs. Long time residents who complained were shot at by the organizers of these parties. The authorities on the island don't want to clamp down because it would spoil the tourist trade which profits from these parties!!

We are going to Kao Tao instead

As to the OP

Best beach, no? Its a nice beach, a nice location with some really great places to stay. But, best beach? No. Haad Yao on the east side is a beautiful beach. Thong Nai Pan is a beautiful beach. Than Sadet takes my vote for place with the most relaxed location and a lovely beach. All of these beaches have deep water for swimming whereas Haad Salad is fairly shallow and can be rocky as the reef is fairly close to shore.

But, Haad Salad is easier to get to and does have some great places to stay, Salad Huts taking my vote as best on the beach.

Interesting to see how people can distort the reality and lie about a place only writing about rumors.

Go in Koh Tao instead, be happy with the famous opium dealers, ganjia growers and mushrooms shakes.

Back on topic, Haad Salad is a beautiful quiet beach. Apart from resorts there is also some big bungalows with kitchen on the hill behind for rent at reasonable price.

If you like snorkelling I can suggest also Mae Haad (Koh Ma), the best reef in KPG

are there any places on the west coast where your actual bungallow is on the actual beach itself?

sbk, shhhhht. Don't let this become known.

I love Sadet, too. Had my eyes on Yao east for years, but every time I am on KPN its deserted. Lets keep it that way.

I would have to say Freedom beach in the south. Sairee Beach isn't bad either. For swimming and snorkeling I like Hin Wong Bay although there's no sand there but big boulders which are quite cool.

Is it still deserted? I haven't been over there for about 5 years or so, my father-in-law used to own land there and my husband grew up on that beach many many years ago.Nice to hear its still deserted but I was under the impression someone was building bungalows there?

Haad Yao (east) Cabana was a funky place where to spend a few days when Dong was in charge.

Crazy "road" but the Honda Dream (& myself) got quickly acquainted, especially while following locales!

But, as well, it was more than five years ago.
