Geiger Counter Needed - Rent Or Buy

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My company needs to do some general radiation tests during a commodoties inspection in the first week of May.

Therefore I need a Geiger counter, Radalert 50 will do for sure, but ANY other equivalent is wellcome.

I have it not on hand here in Thailand and shipping it in from Europe is going to be too expensive (dunno what Thai Customs gonna charge me,...) and probably not on time.

Where can I rent or buy a good second hand in Chiang Mai or Bangkok?

If any of the Thaivisa members has one which I can use for a reasonable price, that would be great.

Thanks.

P.S.: Please refrain from replying with stupid comments.

Go and talk to one of the local NDT companies, pretty sure they will rent you one.....someone like ThaiNDT, Seeva or Qualitech

Unfortunately my stuff is currently on loan in the uk, so I cannot help in that way.

If what is wanted here is window dressing during the visit, then as you say anything will do. Its unlikely you will find anything on sale in thailand; radiation counters are very application dependent so they are not really retail. for something big, yellow and intimidating ebay is your best bet. Failing that I think your only option would be approaching university chemistry and physics departments; see if you can talk them in to loaning something to you; even a small department should have something.

If you want real answers they there is no substitute for taking and retaining batch samples which you can send to a analytical lab as needed. But even here I have had little luck in thailand and I have to get asbestos and soil analysis's carried out overseas.

mandatory silly comment:

shorly there are easier places to buy milk power than the Ukraine

OP what type of radiation are you trying to measure anyways ???...ie Alpha's, Beta's Gamma, X-ray what ?

We need to make sure that the commodity is free of nuclear radiation.

So, an Alpha, Beta and Gamma detection device is needed.

Thank you.
