BMA to extend CCTV coverage in the capital

Bangkok authorities are prepared to expand the city's CCTV surveillance to incorporate outlying areas in a move to increase security capabilities.

Mr. Pongsakti stated that a Traffic and Transport Bureau officer reported that frequent protests had affected many of the capital's surveillance cameras prompting the BMA to have to consider installing additional units. The capital administration was considering widening the scope of surveillance beyond traffic control and into security detail and had also set plans to maintain CCTV cameras more stringently.

The BMA would soon ask private establishments such as department stores and schools to connect their surveillance to a central system.
