Since I am not a good story writer I just like to know why Farangs always have to put up with crap?

I have lived in Thailand for 2 years now (not counting all the trips I made here before)

I went for my usual border run ( as you know you have to do ) So I had to make the stupid check up

to be testet for my health. ( swine flu) Now my wife who is a Thai national never been ask the same.

I did ask why do I have do that ? The answer was you have an Australian Passport.

So my wife has an Thai passport which I don't have she can travel and I can not ?

Fred, it's just that you are more likely to have travelled to countries like Mexico than a Thai national.

I wouldn't say that farangs always have to put up with crap either, if that was really the case then no farangs would be here.

She is not travelling with a passport.

I'm sure if she had a Farang issued passport she would go through the same process.

It's probably just a government directive, like " All Foreign Passport Holders " must go through a certain process, the officials at the border are only doing what they are told to do.

I enter Tokyo and get fingerprinted at the airport, I enter Thailand and don't get fingerprinted, so is Japan more paranoid against outsiders than Thailand ?

Any way, it's my honest opinion that westerns generally have to put up with less crap than Thais. I'm honestly shocked when I hear about all the crap that is expected of the Thai teachers at my school. Same goes for when my girlfriend goes out to look for a job! One spa she applied at told her she had to give THEM 10k to start work and she could no longer go to the beach because she was "too black already". YIKES! Imagine saying that in any western country!

My Thai husband & I lived togetehr for years in Thailand, 5 years ago we decided to move to UK, he got the visa, we took the plane to UK & on arrival he was subjected to a TB test, I was not.

A passenger who had lived their whole life in SA but who held a UK passport through ancestry also didn't have to take the test but both he & my husband come from TB risk countries & neiother had visited the Uk before. My husband wasn't being persecuted but he was subject to immigration control policy, that is not perfect & does have gaping holes in it.

Many Farangs in Thailand don't realise that they in fact get treated much better than many Thai people get treated in Thailand.

Whenever I go to a Thai business for whatever reason I am treated with a perfect welcome, Just beacause I 'm Farang, I may be totally broke, but I'm still treated with respect, because I'm Farang.

I could have 20 Baht in the Bank and be on a 5 year overstay living off my Thai GF who's working in a bar while I look after our lovechild at home......

I will still be treated with respect when I enter a Thai establishment, cos farangs are very fortunate in this country, you are percieved as being well off, I know some will decry that, but C'mon guys, did you not come to Thailand thinking that your money will go a lot further than it would in your home country ?

I very much doubt there are many guys from 3rd World SE Asian nations living it up large in London, unless they are rich, and if they are rich, they'll have young English girls dripping off their arms..

I guess it was too much then for the immigration guy to check to see if you had travelled as far as Mexico simply by looking at entry and exit stamps.

It's not only you mind.

On my last hop at Mae Sot I was checked to see if I had a high temperature.

None of the other crossers, all Thai or Burmese going home were subject to the same check.

Because it's for Foreign Passport holders !!!!!!!

If any of those people had a British Passport, they would have had to do the same thing as you did, no matter what colour skin they had.

Where did I say I believed Thailand had racist policies?

If you bothered to read my post properly you would see that I was commenting on the Burmese side doing the testing in my instance and the fact that the OP had only left Thailand in the last 2 years on similar border hops. He has not been to Mexico so at the same risk of swine flu as any Thai in Thailand I guess.

I, for one, am a Paranoid Posters of ThaiVisa, and, yes, you are treated differently. Please don't tell me that I wouldn't want it any other way, cause I certainly would want it another way. However, I've come to realize that's just the way it is. Do you really believe that a Thai national wouldn't be subject to the same discrimination if they went anywhere in the world? Are you paranoid if someone really is trying to fuc_k with you? I love Thailand, and I tend to ignore the minor bullshit that goes along with living in a foreign country. I realize I'm a guest. Thailand is a walk in the park compared to Eastern Europe, and there are ways to avoid being singled out. I've been discriminated against in much nicer places than Thailand.

It's not racist is it, you knew full well before you came to Thailand to live, before YOU CHOSE Thailand and decided to CHOOSE Thailand as your base, that you could never own land here, it wasn't an all of a sudden law sprung upon you was it ?

Had the same experiece myself at Myawaddy/Mae Sot.

The Burmese seem to be testing all the 'Farangs' but not the Thais or Burmese coming into Burma.

Seems a bit short sighted to me as anyone could be infected with flu virus so test them all if you want to have an effective program.
